“This is all lies. You’ll be exonerated, I’m sure,” She said. “You could come live with me and Eyal in the warehouse and bring Giddy with you!”

Tally would have to find someone to take the warehouse from her. But Tamar didn’t correct her sister, instead she thanked her warmly.

“We’d make ends meet as we always have,” Tally said, and they hugged. But Tamar didn’t know how they would make ends meet. It was always her job to do it.

She returned home and followed Berdiplast’s share throughout the day. They released three immediate notices, each worse than the previous one. The first one said that due to unforeseen changes in the market, the company might incur a major loss in its next financial statement. Then, there was an immediate notice of key personnel changes. The CFO had resigned and was replaced by one, Gideon Sela. The third notice stated that because of personal issues, the COO replaced the CEO.

By the end of the trading day, the market had reacted strongly, and the share price plummeted by a whopping 40%. A Strong Buy in her opinion. But then again, she had an intimate knowledge of the new CFO, and a belief he would lead the company well. The market didn’t share her knowledge or trust.

Tamar was pouring potato chips and Bamba peanut snack into bowls for the T- team’s last meeting ever, when a hesitant knock on the door sounded. A red-eyed, white-lipped Yelena stood on her threshold.

“Can I come in?”

Tamar flicked a glance at the fridge, reminding herself of the forgiveness commandment. She stood aside, and Yelena walked in.

“Hey Giddy!” Yelena smiled. Her people loving dog wagged his tail. Tamar frowned at him.

“This isn’t a social call. What do you want?”

Yelena freed herself from her large backpack and unfolded her laptop. She talked while she set it up.

“So, in Keynan’s office, Danny said you came on to him.”

“I didn’t!” Tamar protested.

“I know. You love Gideon. Anyone can see that.” Tamar stared at Yelena as a sudden awareness zipped through her. She loved Gideon. She was in love with Gideon Sela. Of course! She loved him. She wanted him for the rest of her life. That kind of love. She wanted to have his children kind of love. Tamar Feynman-Sela, she tried in her head.

“So...listen, Tamar, are you listening? I thought, this doesn’t add up, Tamar wouldn’t. And I thought I’d check my recordings.”

“What recordings?” She was still shaken by her epiphany. “Danny and I didn’t talk on the phone or anything.”

“No, I told you, I record everything he says next to his computer. He doesn’t need to speak on his landline. So, I found my recordings and listened to all of them. But it was the other way around. He wanted you. He asked you out way back, even before he asked me out. And then I heard how he talked about me, that he said I was nothing.”

Yelena gulped. A tear dropped on Tamar’s coffee table. Tamar felt a little sorry for her. But only just a little.

“Well, congratulations. You bet on the wrong guy. What do you want to hear? That I forgive you? That we could go back to being friends again?”

“No. I came here for a different reason. I think I can make this right. When I listened to the recordings, I realized that I have him on tape making deals. I think I have incriminating recordings of Danny.”
