“Come on, Tamari,” Tally said, laying on the sofa a rectangular sample of a shiny dark blue velvet fabric. “Let’s make you beautiful. That way you get the job, and that annoying Gideon doesn’t.”

“I don’t want dresses for the office. It means I have to wear pantyhose in the winter and I hate it,” Tamar said. “I feel more comfortable wearing pants.”

“Oh.” Tally looked crestfallen.

“Come on, Tally. Are you telling me you can’t make a good pantsuit for your sister?” Marina asked.

“Yeah, I guess. Anything so you get the job.”

“She’ll get the job because I’ll make her a killer system,” Yelena said.

“And I’ll spy,” Marina said. “I’ll learn all about Gideon’s shareholders’ meetings project.”

“I don’t have to do anything,” Noga said. “Tamar’s great recommendations for the buy-side do the job for me. I just remind of it to people.”

For the first time in her life, Tamar had people who actively helped her and that she could confer with. Her family had always declared they were her staunchest supporters, but blind faith differed greatly from having her back. It was strange and scary she was so used to relying only on herself. But she would add this to her rules: Rule Number Ten: ‘Create a support team at work and support each other.’

“Can I at least make you an A line LBD? It won’t be little, it will complement your waist and moderate your chest,” Tally asked.

“What’s LBD?” asked Yelena, who didn’t have a sister in fashion.

“Little Black Dress,” Tamar answered. “Okay, but that’s it.”

“It’ll be ready for you for Eilat. You’ll pair it with a black jacket, you have plenty of those,” Tally said. “I have it! I’ll do a navy-blue high-waist pants that can go with any of your jackets as well...”

“Go, Tally,” Marina said with hardly any irony. Giddy barked.

25. Gideon

“This is getting old,” Tamar said, but she was smiling. “You running here every morning.”

The long T-shirt she wore was loose and her bare shoulder showed. It was a bright new morning, and she looked fine.
