“Hey.” It wasn’t fair. He just woke up, yet his breath was minty fresh. “Can I kiss you?”

“No! I didn’t brush my teeth yet.”

“I did. And I don’t care.” Gideon was sprawled next to her, his chin in his hand. One large palm caressed her hair and arranged it on her pillow. She had on her large T-shirt, the one she used for sleeping in the winter months. He kissed her shoulders, her neck, her chin. Then he tilted her head to him and kissed her lightly on her lips, sensing that even if he didn’t care, she was uncomfortable.

“I ran with Giddy and Shemesh already, and they’re fed and happy. We have the morning to ourselves. In bed.” His deep voice caressed her ear.

They didn’t have all morning.

She was due at Peaks for her first day as chief analyst, her first day as a management member, and she wanted to be perfect. She had spent last night going over all the materials of the other departments and her brief. She wanted to be bright and early in her office.

But she could pretend with him, for a while, that they had all the time in the world.

She burrowed into the soft hair on his flat chest and inhaled his warm body deeply. She had been waking up with him every day now, and she already couldn’t imagine it any other way.

Mrs. Elron hadn’t rescinded her letter, giving Tamar until the end of the calendar year to either ditch Giddy or leave the apartment. She couldn’t really part ways with her dog. So, three weeks ago, she and Giddy had moved in with Gideon.

“I never had a proper boyfriend before you,” she told him.

“A rich boyfriend. I’m going to spoil you so much! I’ll take you abroad to Paris, New York. To Greece.”

“I spent some of my bonus money last year on a vacation to Greece. My father and I took everyone for a four-night stay in Rhodes.”

“Hotels with crying children and Zumba at the swimming pool.” Gideon visibly shuddered. “I want to feed you, and I know just the place where we could eat, drink, and make love.”

“Where?”

“In Spain, in a city called San Sebastian. There are long streets lined with bars. We’ll roll from one bar to the other, drink and eat pintxhos. They’re finger food, small tapas, and every bar has rows and rows of different ones. We’ll live up on the hill, where there’s a marvelous view of the Bay of Biscay. And I’ll still be hungry, so I’ll eat your whole body, bit by bit.”

“Like Pac-Man.” Tamar couldn’t resist. Gideon laughed. His Adam’s apple bobbed merrily. His whole chest shook.

“I want to put a real garden on the penthouse balcony. Small trees to break the wind and give shade, herbs, flowers. It’s a shame the way it looks now.”

“Go ahead. Do your thing, like you did in Tally’s yard. But hire a gardener. Then plan it together with him.”

Right. Hiring staff to do chores.

“I love you,” he said. He’d said it every morning. She never remembered to say it first. But today she was going to beat him. She had a stronger sentence than a mere I love you.

“I took off the patch.” The light brown eyes became pure gold.

“You didn’t. You did?”

“I don’t see any point in waiting.”
