“I don’t think you understand, Doctor. I want you to get your fat ass off that chair and show me where Kally is. If you’re not over here in two seconds, then I’m going to do my target practice on anyone who walks past this door. Their blood will be on your hands.”
“Okay. Please, put the gun away. It’s a trigger for a lot of clients in here.”
Is this woman for real? “They won’t see the gun because you’ll be in front of it. Now stop stalling and move it. I’m not a very patient man.”
She walks over to me slowly, and I stab the gun into her back. My jacket is hiding it from plain sight, but I’ve passed caring about the repercussions of my actions.
“Draw attention to us, any sudden movement, and I start shooting, starting with you,” I whisper into her ear.
Her body shudders in front of me, and I get a sudden wave of euphoria. People are always scared of me, and that’s the way it should be. Everybody should fear the Collinson name. That’s the name that has been built up for centuries.
“Gail, I have a call for you on line one,” calls another woman.
“Take a message for me, Carol. I’ll have to call them back. I’m in the middle of something right now.”
I push the gun further into the woman I now know is called Gail. I don’t want her to forget that I’m the boss of this situation, and I will start shooting if I must.
“It’s an emergency at the hospital.”
“I’ll call them back, Carol,” she grinds out over her shoulder as we carry on walking down the corridor. “Kally’s in there.” She points to a closed door. “The code for the door is 5989.”
“Enter it.”
Gail unlocks the door, and I push her inside. If she thought I was letting her walk away to call the police, then she was mistaken. I see Kally lying on the bed. Her arms and legs are secured into position.
“Unlock her restraints.”
Gail walks over to the bed and does as I’ve asked. She looks calm considering I could end her life at any moment.
“We had to sedate her. She’ll be groggy for another hour at least.”
“Then we’ll wait. I want to see her fear when I put the bullet in between her eyes.”
“It doesn’t have to end like this. You can do the best thing for everyone and end this the right way.”
“I plan on ending things, Doctor.”
“You can be the hero and hand yourself in to the police.”
“Don’t use your psycho-babble on me. You’re wasting your time. No one will ever be able to help me. I’m too far gone for redemption. This is who I am. This is who they made me.”
“Who made you this way?”
“My father. He made me this monster.”
“You can see that what you’re doing is wrong. Anyone who knows right from wrong can be set on the right path.”
“Those people you talk about will want forgiveness. I don’t.” I run my hand through my hair and sit on the edge of Kally’s bed. “I just want to be free now. I can’t do that until I get my revenge on everyone who’s ever crossed me.”
“And what do you want to do?”
The doctor sits on a large beanbag in the corner and leans back like she’s just having a break. I’ve never seen anyone so calm. If she fears me, she’s hiding it well.
“If I tell you that, I’d have to kill you too, and there’s something about you that I like.”
I haven’t liked anyone for years. People grate on my nerves, but this doctor has me intrigued.
“Do you want me to give you my opinion?”
