“Can I see my little girl?” asks Joselyn.
I shake my head. “We can’t see her for six weeks, and even then, it depends on how she responds to treatment. Kally can refuse to see us too.”
“I didn’t want this for her. She was always supposed to grow up, marry you, and live a happy life.”
That’s what I always had planned out for me and Kally too. I never wanted this for her. I just want to protect her, give her everything she deserves. I would have treated her like a queen. I still will when I get the chance.
“All we can do is hope that, with the right treatment, we get Kally home and we can right a lot of wrongs.”
“Such a wise boy.” Joselyn pats my cheek.
“He’s the wise one, but I got the looks,” Damien chimes in and breaks the tension.
I roll my eyes at my brother, then shake my head. “Listen, I have enough rooms here. I’d much rather you guys stay here until we find Colton and lock his ass up.”
“We don’t want to put you out, Clark. Damien has found us a lovely cottage in the middle of nowhere.”
“I want you here.”
“And what will Kally want?” asks Joe.
I shrug. “I don’t know, but when she’s feeling better and listens to your side of things, I’m sure she’ll want you here. I can’t keep you safe if you’re hours away.”
“Okay. If you’re sure,” says Joselyn.
“I’ve got some work to do in my office, but Nancy will get you set up, and if you need anything, just let us know.”
I stand up and head to my office with Damien hot on my heels.
“What’s going on, bro? What happened today?”
I pour myself a Jim Beam over some ice and sit on the edge of my desk. “I don’t know. I just had this sudden feeling that I needed answers. I needed to punch the fuck out of something.”
“And that had to be our father’s face?”
“I never planned that. It just happened. I don’t regret it. He’s lucky that’s all I did. Anyway, we’ll need to get Kally’s mom and dad’s things from the place you’ve had them hiding.”
“I’ll get their security detail to pack up and bring it here. The more security you have here, the better. The Shawland brothers checked out their background. They’re all good.”
“Cool. I really do have some work to do. Are you sticking around for dinner?”
Damien nods. “I think I should. You’re worrying me. I’d much prefer you to be the moody fucker we had for the last couple of days. I knew what to expect then. This…” He points up and down my body and shakes his head. “I don’t know what you’re going to do next.”
“Don’t worry about me. I’m a big boy.”
“That doesn’t fill me with confidence, bro.”
“Get out of here.” I throw a cube of ice at my brother’s head, and he ducks out of my office, laughing.
Chapter 21
Colton
I watch brother number two enter his car. Brother number one must be holed up inside with the bitch’s parents.
The thought of them all playing happy families turns my stomach. How dare they turn their backs on their real family? Blood means more than that, but Clark and Damien have always thought themselves better than everyone else. They were the golden children in our mother’s eyes. The ones who could do no wrong. Well, that attitude is for bitches, not men of the world. No man should conform to society. There’s no fun in that. But I’m going to show these motherfuckers what fun can be like when they least expect it.
I pick up the gun from the passenger’s seat, spin the barrel, and click it shut. I’m ready to take revenge on every single one of those fuckers in that house. Blood will be shed. All bar the beautiful Kally, because she will watch the life drain from everyone she cares about. Clark has made it easy for me because they’re now all under one roof, and I can watch and strike when the mood hits. No one will see me coming until it’s too late. I’ll take pleasure in gutting each of them like a fish and redecorating Clark’s precious house with their blood.
