“Your father wants to talk to you.” Giovanni informed me with a look that said it was important.

“He can wait. Leave us.” I told him.

I led Althaia back to the couch as the others left the den, and I took a seat where the doctor had previously sat. Taking hold of her hand, adjusting the small light, and grabbing the tweezers, I began removing the rest of the glass.

“Tell me what happened, my love.” I spoke to her softly. Althaia let out a breath, taking a moment to compose herself.

“Miciela… she asked how my pregnancy was going.” Althaia whispered. I paused in what I was doing, my brows furrowed as I looked at her. “She mocked me for my miscarriage, and I just… lost it. I felt such anger, and the next thing I know, I’m following her and stuffing broken glass into her mouth.” Her eyes narrowed as she relived the moment.

“I’m not sure how I was even able to do it, but I didn’t mean to cause problems. I’m -”

“Don’t you dare apologize.” I held her chin, looking at her with a firm expression. “She had it coming for opening her mouth, and you did the right thing to shut her up.” If anything, Miciela didn’t deserve a bullet in her head; she deserved a painful death.

“It’s not that I’m regretting it, just feeling guilty about putting the others in danger.” She muttered, and I couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.

“You’re not putting anyone in danger. Don’t underestimate my men. They’re all highly trained.”

“I guess.” She gave me a small smile.

“I’m proud of you, my love.” I smiled softly. Her brows slightly rose as she looked at me. Her cheeks started to take on a rosy color as she gazed at me so innocently with her big green eyes. It was hard to believe that it was my innocent woman who had fucked someone up so badly.

“Tell me how you did it.” I winked, seeing her eyes almost sparkle and ready to tell me everything as I resumed cleaning her hand.

I listened to every word as she explained. The more I listened, the more I wished I had taken Miciela and tortured her to death.

“I also stabbed her hand with the knife you gave me.” Althaia said proudly.

“My little psychopath.” I chuckled. She leaned forward, a small smirk on her lips.

“I learned from the best.”

“You did.” I matched her smirk before closing the distance between us, kissing her soft lips.

“I just don’t know how she knew I was pregnant.” She sighed as she rested her head on my shoulder.

“We’ll figure it out.” I assured her. It shouldn’t have been possible for Miciela to access Althaia’s medical journal since it was secured. I needed to get Raffaele on it to see what was going on.

“Nonna knows about it, too. I had to tell her what happened. She didn’t say anything, but she didn’t look pleased about it.”

“She’ll get over it. What we decide to do is none of their business, but only ours.” I told her. Althaia’s gaze went to the doorway, and I glanced over my shoulder seeing my father there.

“Go to your room. I will be right back.” I said to her quietly, receiving a nod in response. I kissed her forehead before getting up.

I followed my father into his office. My Nonna and mother were present, as well as Antonio, Luca, Giovanni, and Raffaele, along with two of my father’s men. Taking a seat on the couch, I already knew what he wanted to say.

I looked at the green emerald ring on my finger. It reminded me so much of her eyes, making me love it even more and wearing it with pride.

“Do you have any idea what kind of mess you’ve made?!” My father erupted.

“I didn’t make a mess. In fact, I got rid of the trash.” I faced him, my words not easing his anger.

“We had an alliance! They were our important allies in Italy, and that woman ruined everything! You are to get rid of her immediately!”

I abruptly stood and walked up to him, getting as close as I could while staring him down.

“What are you saying, father?” My voice was deadly low, daring him to repeat himself. He didn’t back down as he frowned at me.

“She is ruining your business! Isn’t she the one who attacked Miciela? Isn’t she the reason you still haven’t killed Gaetano as you should have long ago?” He spat out.
