“Are you okay?” Damiano looked at me with worry.
“I think I need to lie down for a bit.” I said after chugging some mouthwash.
I closed my eyes and tried to calm down because somehow, I still felt nauseous even though I almost threw up my organs. At least it felt like that.
“Gio, go change. You stunk up the entire room.” I yelled out to him right as Damiano came back with a bottle of water for me.
“As if she wasn’t a pain in the ass before. Now I can’t even smoke in peace.” Giovanni complained.
“I heard that!”
“You were supposed to.” He said grumpily and walked out. I chuckled.
He was so going to be called Uncle Grumpy.
“God, this sucks.” I took a bite of some dry toast as I felt sorry for myself. I had to spend another day in bed since I couldn’t stop throwing up.
“It shouldn’t be like this for long.” Damiano tried to comfort me.
“What if it does? I tend to be unlucky, you know.” I sighed and leaned back against the headboard. “This is your fault. You did this to me.” I blamed him with a scowl.
“I meant to pull out, but then I looked at you and thought you would make a great mother, so I didn’t.” He joked, and I burst out laughing.
“You’re unbelievable.”
“I’m sorry you have to go through that, but I’m not apologizing for getting you pregnant.” Damiano smiled smugly.
“Ha, you’re not sorry. I know you’re secretly happy about me not going to work.” I said, taking another bite of my toast since it was all I could keep down.
“True. This way, I know you’re not overworking yourself, and I can keep an eye on you. Eat more.” He handed me more bread.
“You’re so bossy.” I chuckled.
“I know.” He winked. “It reminds me, I have something for you.” Damiano got up from the bed and pulled something from his bag.
“What is it?”
“Open and see.” He said and handed me a velvety box.
I carefully opened it, and I held my breath as I looked at what was inside. Completely mesmerized by the beauty of the most extravagant jewelry my eyes had ever seen.
The Tiffany Yellow Diamond was right here.
In front of me.
In my hands.
“Try it on.” Damiano’s voice got me out of my trance from the exquisite sparkling necklace.
“No way, I’m not touching it! I’m afraid to even breathe near it.” I exclaimed. I carefully placed it down on the bed so I could admire it from a distance.
“It’s just a necklace, piccola.” Damiano laughed.
“It’s a necklace worth fifty million dollars.” I reminded him.
“Why are you whispering?” He looked at me, amused that I had whispered the fifty-million-dollar part.
“What if someone hears and tries to break in to steal it?”
