“I’ve got news for you guys.”
“If it’s about the investors, we already know.”
“Goddamnit, I was hoping you didn’t. Anyway, this is amazing. We should celebrate by going to that club opening I told you about.”
“I’m in,” Ryan says before taking another sip of his scotch.
“I don’t know, man. What’s so special about this place?”
Ethan shrugs. “Nothing in particular, other than the fact that there will be tons of hot women there.”
“I’m so sick of LA women. They’re all the same.”
“Oh, come on. You’re telling me you don’t want to get laid tonight? What does it matter if they’re all the same? No one said you had to find your soulmate tonight.”
“I know, I know,” I mumble.
I down the rest of my glass before pouring another two fingers. Ethan’s not wrong. I can just find someone to fuck and call it a night. I’ve never had a problem doing that before.
It’s just that lately, I’ve been wanting more than that. It’s been a while since I actually dated someone. Hell, it’s been a while since I’ve found anyone interesting enough to want to take that next step with them.
The last time I even went on an actual date was months ago, and I didn’t even take her home, that’s how boring she was. I practically fell asleep listening to her talk.
It’s not that I’m insanely picky or anything, I just prefer my women to have an actual personality. I want more than just a hot body and a pretty face. Turns out, that’s really hard to find.
Maybe I’m just looking in the wrong places. Or maybe what I want doesn’t exist.
My last real relationship was two years ago, and we dated for about a year before her personality completely changed. My mistake was letting her know at the beginning what kind of woman I wanted. Apparently, she used that as a way to practice her acting skills because for those first twelve months, she was the epitome of what I wanted in a partner. Then, little by little, she started revealing her true colors.
At least now I know better. Never tell someone what you want them to be, just wait for them to show you who they are. Saves a lot of time.
Ethan and Ryan are talking about something, but I can’t make myself tune in. I can’t seem to get my mind off the idea that maybe there just isn’t a woman out there for me.
I shake my head, trying to clear the thought. Ethan’s right. We should be celebrating tonight.
“I’m thinking we get two more big investors, and then we can really start getting this app going.”
“I agree. We’ve pretty much got the funding we need already, but it’s always good to overestimate.”
“What do you think, Logan?”
“Yeah, yeah. Two’s fine.”
“What’s wrong with you, man? You seem distracted.”
“Nothing. What time is this grand opening?”
“Doors open at eight. Why, you down to go?”
“Maybe.”
“Yess, come on, dude! Don’t make us leave you here to sulk by yourself.”
Fuck it. They’re right. I sure as hell won’t find a woman by staying inside for the rest of my life. What could I possibly lose? At the very least, I can get my dick wet.
“Okay, fine. Let’s do it.”
“Fuck yeah!” Ethan says, slapping me on the back. “You won’t regret this.”
