“I will, ma’am.”

“Good. I knew you were the right choice.”

I smile at her as she walks me to the elevator.

“Welcome to Treyfield employment, Miss Davies.”

The words make me shiver. I can’t stop smiling. Dreams really do come true.

Iglance sharply towards the door and remove my glasses. The energy that goes through my penthouse makes the hairs on my body rise. I huff out a sound and clear my throat. Silas tenses on the couch and shifts so he’s sitting up. His lips twist as he steadies his jiggling knee. Grayson jumps off the treadmill before it stops and, in long strides, reaches the door.

This is the moment. All our plans, months of work. It starts now.

He yanks it open. I put my hands flat on the desk and stare at my favourite employee. Yvette Daniels walks in looking like a million dollars. She’s polished and ruthless and far too many men underestimate her to their peril. If she scents blood in the water, she will attack. But I hold her leash. Outside of my pack, she is one of two people I would say I trust.

“Come in.” I growl.

She waited for me to say the words. Just how I trained her. I want to shake her and have her behave differently today. I want her to give me the words I need to hear. She purses her lips and gives Grayson and Silas a polite nod.

“She’s taken the bait, sirs. She’s signed up to work for the resort, and she’s on the bus.” Her voice is calm and holding just a touch of reticence.

The relief of those words takes a moment to go through me.

I close my eyes to savour the victory. Yvette lets out a shriek, and I jerk forward in surprise to see Grayson spinning her round and round.

“You are the best, Yvette. I knew we could count on you.” He crows loudly and smacks a kiss on her cheek.

“Keep your lips to yourself, Gray. My girlfriend will take your head.” Yvette warns, but I can hear the pleasure in her voice.

Right, I need to get things moving. We’re moving our base of operations to the resort. I reach for my tablet and freeze. There is so much I need to organise. I bite the inside of my cheek, relishing the pain that lets me know this is real.

Silas is still silent, but his guilt is keeping him from happiness. That’s fine. When we fix everything, he will be himself again. We will all be ourselves again. I stand up and then pause, frowning as my gaze lands on my assistant.

“You’re still here.”

Yvette frowns.

“Rude much?” Gray snorts a laugh and slaps Yvette on the back. “You need a raise?”

“No, Alpha Waters, he’s paying me too much, anyway.”

“Good, but never turn down a good raise. I’ll have Simon organise you a bonus.”

Yvette grabs his arm. “I want vacation days.”

Gray laughs. He smirks at me and answers her without looking. “Done.”

“What is it?” I ask impatiently. “Why are you still here?”

“There are two, sir.”

“Two?” My mind tries to conjure what she could be talking about, but I come up blank.

“Two girls. I was informed that they are twins. They are both going to the resort.” Yvette clarifies. “Twins, Alpha Treyfield.”
