The stones dazzled under the lights, glinting like a thousand stars.

She gasped, drawn to the sparkling jewels. He reached up behind her to fasten the necklace.

“This is only on loan so don’t become too attached,” he warned.

His breath caressed the back of her neck. In response, her knees trembled, and she had to force them together to stop the knocking sound she was sure they would make.

“What will happen if I do?”

“It usually comes with its own bodyguard but since I use the Harry Winston label quite often, they trust me enough not to run away with their goods.”

“Are you kidding, about the bodyguard?”

“No.”

“But that’s…”

“Crazy?” He offered, finishing her question. “Not when you learn how much these things cost.”

“I was going to say, silly. If a necklace costs that much than maybe no one should ever wear it.”

“But what would adorn this lovely neck of yours, then?”

When had a neck or a woman enticed him as much? His fingers shook so much, he struggled with the clasp.

You’ve jumped across buildings, dangled out of helicopters and swam with a sea of sharks, so you can damn well work a clasp!

Finally, the thing was on, but he couldn’t remove his hands from her. They slid down her neck, holding onto the space between her shoulders. He wanted to peel away that dress with his teeth until he exposed every inch of her creamy skin.

“What are you doing to me, Jane?” He asked, his voice, husky with desire.

Jane was drawn into those green eyes of his, drowning in the moment. She couldn’t think of her fears or worries. But then she remembered last night, the way he had pulled away.

The man blew hot and cold so much, she had no idea what was going through his mind. He was definitely flirting right now, using those lethal charms on her, but to what end?

It occurred to her that this could just be part of their act, but none of the makeup girls were here anymore, so who would benefit from this?

“I’m glad to see the lovebirds are getting hot and heavy, but save it for the cameras,” Adele’s imperious voice came from behind them.

They jumped away from each other like a shot.

“What terrible timing you have,” Logan growled, scowling with the kind of anger Jane would find intimidating. Adele waved it off with a tiny hand.

“The car’s waiting outside, but can I say, you two do look the part.”

She had also changed for the occasion and was wearing a skintight Hervé Léger bandage dress that didn’t leave anything to the imagination. If she wasn’t as petite as she was, the dress would have looked vulgar on anyone else, but Adele somehow managed to pull it off. She looked dainty and perfect, a lynx in blood red with nails to match.

Pivoting on her heels, she stalked off ahead of them.

Placing a hand down the small of Jane’s back, Logan nibbled on her earlobe, sending shock-waves rocketing her world.

“Duty calls, but it doesn’t mean we can’t have any fun while we work.”

Jane sprang away from him.

“Don’t do that!”

His laugh boomed around the high-ceilinged room.
