“And this is Loki.”
Gayle laughed as Loki nudged her in greeting. “He’s a stunner. Yours?”
“He belongs to Logan. Apparently, you’re the only one in the world who doesn’t know that.”
Gayle didn’t understand the comment. She raised a brow in question.
“Oh, nothing. It was a joke.”
There was movement by the restaurant. The director, a thirty-something man with a mohawk and ripped jeans who wouldn’t have looked out-of-place working at the Apple store, spoke with Logan, waving his hands animatedly.
Logan listened, taking in his direction. Jane could see the focus he was drawing into himself, how his eyes clouded over, face growing slack. It was as if, at the switch of a button, the rest of the world had ceased to exist.
“Quiet on set! We’re going for a rehearsal!” The AD yelled out.
A hush fell over the area. Busy as they were, the crew stopped chatting, even moving slowly so that they wouldn’t make any noise as they still worked. Jane sucked in her breath as “action” was called.
Channeling his character, Logan became someone else entirely, even speaking with a different timbre to his voice. The effect was both electrifying and mesmerizing. She couldn’t keep her eyes off of him, and it seemed neither could anyone else.
All eyes were pinned on Logan, playing out the emotional scene, displaying the kind of emotion she had never seen him show.
“And… cut!” The AD suddenly yelled out, startling her. She’d been so invested in the scene that his cold call to reality was a jolt to the system.
“He’s good, huh?” Gayle commented. “Didn’t know he could act like that. Nailed all his dialogue, too. Didn’t miss a single thing.”
Jane glanced down at the screenplay in her folder. “Is that what you do, make sure he says all of his lines?”
Gayle nodded, eyes gleaming. “One of the things, yes. I also ensure the continuity is right, that, for example, he has the right clothes on for this scene. If he was drinking something, I’d make a note of what level the water was at in the glass. The devil’s in the details.”
“That sounds like a lot to be thinking about.”
“It is, but I don’t keep it all in my head. I note everything down here,” she nodded at the folder and script.
“We’re going to go for a take,” the AD yelled out. “Quiet, please!” He waited a few seconds for the noise to die down before calling, “And… ACTION!”
Once again, Logan morphed seamlessly into character, doing an even better job than before if she was any kind of judge. Jane watched, enthralled by the artistry he exuded until the scene was over.
A make-up girl rushed to him, dusting the shine from his forehead as he looked around the room. When their eyes met and held, Jane felt a spark deep within her bones. His lips curled into a sexy smile, the full wattage of it directed at only her.
And just like that, her heart began to thump.
