Her scent was stronger closer to the road, and they shifted there.

The scent led them directly to the town that was beyond a hill past the national park.

Dominic broke into a run, and Luke followed suit.

They stopped every two miles to ensure they were still on the right track.

Abigail’s scent grew stronger the closer they got to the town, which was still asleep.

The waning moon winked at them from the sky as they shifted back to their human forms.

Luke found a backyard where clothes were hanging on a line and stole a pair of pants for himself and Dominic.

They ran into town as Abigail’s scent grew stronger and stronger.

It was strongest outside a motel at the very edge of the community.

They circled the motel, which was freestanding and far away from the rest of the buildings in town, once and then twice.

And that was when they heard the scream—Abigail’s scream.

Luke did not wait to look at Dominic before rushing inside, and the other alpha followed him closely.

Chapter 30

Abigail

Theacrid,pungentsmellof bleach woke Abigail.

She panicked upon waking because part of her thought someone was trying to drown her in bleach.

Her head ached, her mouth was dry, and it tasted like blood. Her nose was congested, and phlegm clogged her throat. She turned her head from side to side as she realized that she was tied down.

At first, Abigail was too disoriented to remember anything.

But then her memories came back, slowly… painfully.

Memories covered in blood.

Memories of the fight between the packs. Memories of killing an enemy wolf.

Memories of being kidnapped.

She opened her eyes and tried to examine her surroundings.

That was when she saw him.

Christian.

Oh God.

No.

No. No. No.

Her breath hitched in her throat, and she struggled to breathe as she realized the danger she was in. Christian had been staring at her, and now he noticed she had seen him.

“Darling,” he crooned, “you’re awake.”
