Dominic slipped an arm around her waist, almost instinctively, and they walked out of the study together.
“Not sure yet.” Abigail leaned against him as they made it downstairs. “We’ll see where the day takes us,” he said lightly.
What Dominic did know was that they wouldn’t be staying in the pack compound.
He walked over to the garage where the pack cars were kept and helped Abigail into his truck.
By the time he was strapping his seatbelt, Dominic had a vague idea of where they were headed. There was a town about ten miles away from the pack compound, and Dominic turned the car onto the street outside the compound gates.
They drove in quiet, companionable silence for about eight miles before the town came into view. It was a pretty, picturesque little place, surrounded by fields of sunflowers and blue vervain on each side. The town was small with one Main Street where all the business was done along with four more streets, which comprised the residential area. The town, called Simon’s Edge, was nothing special, but it was on the way to everything that actually was special.
Dominic knew that there were larger towns. and even a city just an hour’s drive away, but he had also grown to know Abigail by now. She didn’t need anything big or flashy to make her happy.
“This is so beautiful.” Abigail breathed the words, and when he stole a glance at her, he saw that her nose was pressed against the glass of the passenger window.
“It is, isn’t it?” Dominic agreed and pulled into a parking space on Main Street.
“And there’s a cinema here. I thought we could watch some of the classics today. They only show classics, movies from the eighties and nineties.”
Abigail laughed out loud. “I wasn’t even born then!”.
“I was just a toddler.” Dominic shrugged. “So this should be fun.”
They headed in and got their popcorn. Inside, they discovered that they both liked to take peanut M&Ms and mix the sweets in with their popcorn.
Abigail chose a purple slushie while Dominic got a frozen Coke.
Then they bought their tickets to a classic James Bond movie and settled into their seats.
Abigail was still walking heavily, and when they sat down, she leaned against him.
Her arm was out of its cast now, but she still kept it close to her body, holding it stiffly.
The movie flew by, and they blinked when the lights came on.
Dominic helped Abigail out of her seat, and holding hands, they headed out of the cinema and walked to a nearby restaurant.
Dominic realized he was learning more and more about Abigail as he spent time with her. She was patient, caring, and kind. And she also grew more beautiful each time he looked at her.
Her laughter rang throughout the restaurant as he told her jokes, and by the time their first course was brought out, they were holding hands again.
They plowed through several courses of the semi-gourmet meal before dessert came.
“I’m so stuffed.” Abigail groaned, and Dominic grinned wickedly.
“That’s a shame. There’s a gourmet cheese shop close by that I thought we could check out.”
Abigail’s eyes brightened.
In the time she had been living with the Moonstone pack, he had learned that Abigail was a big fan of any and all cheese.
In fact, the stinkier the cheese the better.
After they visited the cheese shop, Dominic and Abigail headed back to the car. As beautiful as the day was, he could tell that Abigail was starting to tire. And even though her arm had healed somewhat, her other injuries still weighed heavily on her body.
“Thank you for the day.” Abigail pulled him toward her before he opened the passenger door for her.
She planted a kiss on his cheek, and his body stiffened as he felt her full, plump lips against his skin.
