With the hearing of a shifter, Dominic had probably caught every sound she had made.
As Abigail waited for Dominic, she took some time to look around the room she was in—his room.
It was a large space and surprisingly colorful. The curtains, which were drawn, were red, and a vase of flowers sat on a side table close to the window.
There was no television in the bedroom, but instead, there was a large bookshelf, and each shelf was filled with books.
There were so many books that each shelf was tightly packed, and atop them were piles of notebooks. Abigail couldn’t help but wonder about their contents. What had this alpha filled so many notebooks with?
Just then, Dominic padded back into the room. He carried a tray, and the fragrant smells that had wafted into the bedroom from the kitchen, penetrated the space.
“I made a full English breakfast,” Dominic announced and set the tray down on her lap.
She jumped slightly when his hands brushed briefly against her thighs.
He had, indeed, made a full English breakfast.
“I figured…” He sat down in an armchair off to the side of her bed. “That you’d eat something on this plate. That’s why I made it all.”
There was, aside from the food, also a glass of orange juice that looked fresh squeezed, and a mug of black coffee. He hadn’t forgotten the milk and sugar either, which were in little containers on the tray.
Abigail lost all inhibition then and began tucking into the food.
At first, she found it awkward to eat with only one arm, but she was hungry enough to overcome this challenge quickly.
When she had finished most of the food and looked up at Dominic, he had a satisfied smile on his face. He took the tray away after she finished her juice and coffee before he helped her up to the bathroom.
“Uhm. I’ll stand outside here in case you need me.” He squirmed uncomfortably.
Abigail nodded breathlessly as his fingers grazed against the bare skin on her good arm. She was still in a lot of pain, but somehow, the food had helped alleviate some of her discomfort.
After using the bathroom, and cleaning up as best she could, she hobbled back to the bedroom.
Dominic had, in the few minutes she had been in the bathroom, changed the bedding. Now, he helped her back into the bed with its crisp clean sheets.
Abigail couldn’t deny that she liked being looked after by the big alpha.
Who wouldn’t? He’s so gorgeous.
Yet as she thought this, memories of Luke invaded her mind.
But then she strengthened her resolve as she remembered what Christian had told her. Luke didn’t want her any longer. He wanted to reject the mating bond.
Dominic brought her some water and a handful of pills, which she swallowed one by one. Finally, when she was completely settled into the bed, he brought her a hot water bottle. He didn’t leave after that as Abigail had expected. Instead, he sat back down in the armchair.
“So…” He leaned forward. “Is there anything you want to talk about? Like the reason you left the Crimson Claw pack?”
She looked at him through narrowed eyes. “I see you’ve done your research.” The bitterness in her voice was obvious, but she couldn’t suppress the tone.
“You said some things, when you got here, after we gave you some pain medication.” Dominic spoke with hesitation in his voice.
Abigail sighed. “I don’t really want to talk about it,” she said honestly. Tears had welled up in her eyes once again, and a lump swelled in her throat.
“You’ll have to talk about it eventually,” Dominic said firmly. “Because I cannot let a young wolf get attacked and have it go unpunished.”
“I don’t even belong to your pack,” she pointed out. “You aren’t responsible for me.”
“I’m an alpha. It would be remiss of me to ignore this atrocity.”
