That was a strange concept to me still.
“Thank you,” she said again.
“For what?”
“For letting Willow spend time with you.”
“She's a great kid, Lily.”
“Oh, I know that, but it never stops me from worrying about her.”
“She's welcome to sit and read to me anytime.”
“I think she'd really enjoy that.”
We changed subjects and she told me a bit about Collier Pack and her family.
“You know the rest of the Six Pack is anxious to meet you. I don't want to overwhelm you too much, but whenever you're ready, they'll be here.”
I was a bit confused as I thought back to the day before. I was a keen observer and had heard mention of the Six Pack on several occasions. Emmett, Thomas, James, and Austin, and then their friends Clay and Wyatt had stopped by to help with the cleanup. That was six of them. Why would there be more than that to a Six Pack?
“I thought they were all here yesterday.” I started rattling off their names, but she shook her head.
“Not the guys. Us better halves.”
I was still unsure of what she was talking about.
“Emmett's the only one of the six still unmated. And now you're here. Us girls have grown just as close as the guys. When you're ready, just let me know and I'll call them in.”
Her phone buzzed and she looked down to smile as she shook her head.
“They are pretty impatient.”
“They want to come now?”
“Yes.”
“But why?”
“What do you mean? You are Emmett's true mate. We're very protective of each of other, but more importantly, they're dying to know the woman who captured him.”
I frowned. “I haven’t captured anyone.”
“Maybe captivated is a better word.”
“They're all females?”
“Yes.”
“And mated?”
“Yes, why?”
“I don't do well with unmated females. They don't exactly appreciate the curse I live with.”
“Why do you call it a curse?”
“What else would you call it? I go into heat every month and draw the attention of every unmated male within at least half a mile. The canines aren't so bad to deal with and usually end up fighting each other more than anything. The human males give unwanted attention but don't have the feral desires of the dogs or worse, the shifters. Wolf shifters are the worse. It's the infatuation and obsession of the human and the feral animalistic response of the wolf. Well, you know what happened yesterday.”
