“I’ve been trying to cover that guy’s ass for a while now,” I confessed.

“We know,” Austin said. “Why do you think they kept you in the dark?”

“Fine. I guess I can understand that, but why didn’t you assholes warn me?”

“Sorry. I’ve had my hands full,” Wyatt confessed. “Plus, I haven’t really been around to know everything that’s being said.”

“Winnie’s been an emotional mess. These pregnancy hormones are the worst,” Clay explained.

Austin shrugged. “Angel’s obsessed with having a baby now that everyone is. So she’s been calling me home a lot lately, if you know what I mean.”

I closed my eyes and shook my head. “I don’t need to hear about your sex life, Austin. Y’all just do me a favor and keep an ear out then actually let me know if you hear anything that you think I need to be aware of.”

“You got it, brother,” Wyatt said. “Now, can I go. This puke really stinks.”

We all laughed as he made a run for his truck.

“Well bossman, what big changes are you going to make around here?” Austin asked.

“I have some ideas,” I admitted. “I want to hear what everyone was complaining about first.”

“Smart move. You’re going to do great,” Clay said.

“And if not, we’ll still be here to catch you when you fall.”

“Austin, don’t be an ass.” Clay shook his head.

“What? I’m just saying that we’ve got your back and are here for you no matter what.”

“Thanks, I think.”

His phone buzzed with an incoming text. He checked it and then grinned.

“Time to go. My mate needs me.” He waggled his eyebrows as he walked away.

“I think he’s going to be very disappointed when he actually knocks her up and suddenly her sex drive is nonexistent and she’s tired all the damn time.”

“Speaking from experience?”

“Hell yes I am.”

“Are you going to warn him?”

“Not a chance. Let him enjoy it while it lasts.”

He clapped me on the shoulder and walked away to get back to work.

The place had cleared out, all but Ridge.

I sighed. No sense in putting this off. I needed to know what I was dealing with.
