“We'll find a way,” Austin said. “Right guys? I mean Thomas is tired and needs a rest, and she won't be in heat forever, will she? We'll fix it then.”
“I don't know,” Emmett said honestly.
I walked over and nuzzled him. It brought great comfort to my wolf, and seemed to ease some of the tension in Emmett too.
“Look,” Lily said. “He may not be able to touch her, but she can still touch him. That's a little better at least, right? Hi.” She gave me a little wave.
After a few awkward moments of everyone staring at us, Emmett rose.
“I need to check the damage for myself. Lily, will you stay with her? I don't want her leaving this room until I know for certain it's safe.”
“Of course. Are you okay with that?” she asked. “Uh, what's her name?”
“I don't know.” He looked down at me like he was hesitating leaving me. “Will you be okay?”
I liked that he talked to me like a human being even when I was in my fur. Few people ever did.
I nodded my head. He stayed for just a few seconds longer, and then, with a sigh of resignation, he turned and walked away.
I immediately missed him.
The other men followed him, leaving me alone with Lily.
She sat on a chair in the corner of the room and studied me for a moment.
“So, you're a bit of a troublemaker, huh?” Then her face broke out into a huge grin. “The best of us always are. We're going to be talking about this day forever. It was epic. Hey, maybe people will finally stop reminding me about how I got wasted the day found out Thomas Collier was my one true mate. Sure, people tried to tell me what a great guy he was, but to me, he was the biggest douchebag on the planet, and I wanted absolutely nothing to do with him, so I ran. But you didn't run. You stayed. You're still here and that gives me hope for Emmett. He truly is one of the good guys. You'll see. Though, this was a pretty epic start down your mating road that no one's gonna forget. Boy, does he have his work cut out for him. It's okay. He's up for it, and more importantly, he's worth it.”
I wasn't sure how to process all she was saying, but I had a suspicion she was right.
Emmett
Chapter 7
The damage was bad.
“Sonofabitch,” Austin cursed as he stood there looking at my house and shaking his head.
“I'll get a team out here to fix it. Don't worry,” Thomas assured me.
“It could have been worse,” James said, looking to the positive side of things.
“It could have? How?” Austin asked.
“They could have gotten my mate,” I answered. “This is just a thing. I'll deal with it.”
“I said I'd take care of it,” Thomas argued.
“No. Thanks, but no. If you guys want to help, then fine, but I don’t think I could handle any of those guys returning here anytime soon. I stick to only those I trust the most.”
“He's got a point there,” James agreed. “I wouldn't want anyone near Katherine if something like this happened either.”
“Okay. I'll see if Wyatt and Clay can spare a few hours to help too. We can do this,” Thomas agreed.
The three of us chuckled. We knew damn well that Alpha hadn't touched a hammer in years. He just issued an order and whatever he wanted done was handled.
“What? We can help.”
“Yeah, wecan,” Austin assured him pointing to me, James, and himself.
