“Is that your only concern?”
“Yes.”
“So if that were not an issue, would you take him as a mate?”
“Yes, of course. But I love him enough not to put him through that and tether him to someone like me.”
I struggled with my wolf, who was trying to surge for control and protect our mate.
“You will take him as a mate, right?”
“Did you not hear what I said?”
I leaned my head against her.
“Sweetheart, say yes.”
She shook her head.
“Say yes,” I urged her.
Slowly she relented and nodded. “Okay.”
“No more talk of running away?” I asked her.
She shook her head and bit her lip.
“From here on out, we face whatever life throws at us together, okay?”
She smiled for the first time since I found her. “Okay.”
“Finally. Walker, Linc, you heard it here. Emmett and Paige will be mated as soon as I lift the curse. Therefore, I officially accept her as a Collier wolf with the full protection of my Pack. We'll deal with the formality of making that official later.”
Walker winked at her and grinned. “We'll alert Kyle immediately and declare the case of the Wolf Killer closed. As she is a shifter, we'll process to the authorities to discreetly remove any cases attributed to her. But you do know that you are now responsible for any further deaths she may incur.”
“I'm aware. And I'm optimistic that once they mate, the curse on her will be lifted. From my time getting to know Paige, I am also confident that any deaths she may have been responsible for were the result of self-defense.”
“They were,” Paige insisted.
“Then we have no problems. Don't worry Paige, I'm certain Westin Force will bury your records and any open cases,” Linc explained.
“You can do that?”
“We have our connections.”
“I just have one question for you,” he said.
“What?”
“I've studied the Wolf Killer cases extensively. You’ve always killed in wolf form, right?”
“Yes.”
“But not this time. Why?”
She sighed. “I'm pretty sure he drugged me. I couldn’t shift. I'm sure it will wear off soon. My wolf is still there, just not quite accessible. It's just weird.”
Wyatt and Thomas shared a look.
