Page 98 of His Wild Mate

“Stop doing that,” I snarled.

“I'm sorry, but I can't.”

“Was it Paige's blood?” I could see the answer in his eyes, but I had to hear it. “Dammit, Thomas. Was it her blood?”

“Yes.”

My insides vibrated, and my wolf roared. I couldn't fully shift because of his Alpha powers holding me in place, and I wanted to rip his throat out for it and anyone else that dared to get in the way of me and my mate.

“He's going to pay for this.”

“Yes, he is. There's more.”

I wasn't sure how much more I could handle. It no longer even felt like I was there, more like an observer watching it all onthe television. This couldn't possibly be real. This wasn't my life. It couldn't be.

“From there, Walker, Clay, and Emmett followed the trail. It was a little easier with a blood trail left behind. He can't physically touch her, so I don't know how he got around my orders. Linc thinks he threw a rock at her, likely her head because there was a lot of blood and no signs of struggle. Somehow, he managed to drag her though. They made it a ways down the mountain to a fire break where it appears he had a vehicle waiting. The snow is harming visibility badly, but they're still out there looking. I promise you we will stop at nothing to find her. Do you hear me?”

I managed to nod. My whole body was numb, and I had never felt so lost and helpless.

“She's gone,” I whispered as my wolf howled in mourning inside my head.

Paige

Chapter 24

The first thing I noticed when I came to was that the smells all around me were wrong. It made my stomach churn. The scent of blood still lingered in the air. And my head pounded. It took me a moment to remember the blood was mine.

I squinted my eyes slightly open and found it pleasantly dark in the room, though I could feel his eyes on me. I could smell the stench of his foul breath. The underlying scent of body odor told me he hadn't showered in some time.

There were always steps to these things, and he had a full-blown obsession at this point.

I took a mental evaluation of my body. I was sore all over, but I was still clothed, and it didn't feel like I'd had sex while unconscious. Maybe because I wasn't actively in heat at the moment he'd refrained.

Tears pricked my eyes with relief because I knew that's what he really wanted. It was what they always wanted from me.

“Good morning,” he said calmly, though his voice was like nails on a chalkboard to my ears.

“How long was I out?”

“A while.”

Specific, thanks,I thought, but didn't push it.

I stretched, testing my restraints and found none.

Was this guy an idiot? What sort of dumbass would leave a woman like me unrestrained?

But he didn't know what kind of woman he was dealing with. He didn't know about the string of bodies I'd left in my wake. And he didn't know I was the allusive Wolf Killer, and he was about to be my next victim.

I bit back a grin. I didn’t relish in taking another's life, but I would enjoy this kill. He'd stalked me, upset my mate, and made me soscared that my own wolf had withdrawn. He wasn't going to get away with it.

Calling to my wolf, I noticed she was there but not quite accessible. I wasn't afraid anymore, but I also had no idea what he might have drugged me with while I was unconscious.

Was that why he'd left me free?

He stood up and walked towards me, hovering just above me and reached out to touch my cheek, but his hand stopped short. He tried again and again before a roar of anger consumed him.

“Why can’t I touch you?”
