With a quick kiss I reluctantly left her. It took every ounce of willpower I had to walk upstairs, out of the house, and get into the car. I sped the whole way down the mountain and made it to the store in record time.
I figured we were going to be there about a week, so I stocked up on everything, especially the few things I had already learned that Paige liked.
As I was putting the last of the groceries into the car, my phone rang. It was James.
“Miss me already?” I asked.
“Where are you?”
“What's wrong?”
“I just need a confirmation on your location.”
“I'm at the cabin. You know the one.”
“I suspected that's where you'd head.”
“Is everything okay? Did Thomas find him?”
“No, but he asked Kyle for help. Two guys from Westin Force Delta just arrived. Walker and Linc. They were briefed on the plane and already tracking him.”
“That's good.”
“Actually, it's not. Is Paige with you?”
“No. She's up at the cabin. We needed food and supplies so I came down into town to grab stuff. James, what's wrong?”
“Walker suggested I go back through the footage from the cameras we installed and look for any clues that may tell us who the hell is stalking your mate.”
“You found something?”
“Yes, but you're not going to like it. Thomas is organizing a team to get to you as quickly as possible.”
“What did you see, James?”
“There wasn't much from the graffiti incident. He knew the cameras were there and dressed appropriately, including a solid black balaclava to hide his face. There's no way to recognize him. I thought it was a dead end. But something made me scroll back further.”
“What the hell did you see, James?”
“It appears he put a device, possibly a tracker, on your car. It happened quickly while your parents and sister were there. He had to have known you weren't there when he struck last night. He probably watched the two of you leave and then monitored your location with the tracking device to ensure he didn't get caught off guard when you returned.”
“He bugged my car? But that means . . .”
My stomach churned and I fought back the bile rising in my throat.
“He knows where you are, Emmett. Even the cabin isn't safe.”

Chapter 22
The big cabin suddenly felt empty without Emmett. It was too quiet and left me with far too much time to think.
I had practically lied to him. He expected us to seal our bond and mark each other, but I couldn’t do that to him. What happened if that still didn't break the curse?
Wandering through the house and thinking about him and everything that had happened, then everything that could possibly go wrong if I stayed was only stressing me out.
I remembered the hot tub and how relaxed it had made me. Sure, Emmett had assisted in that, but even before he got in, my tight muscles had eased and some of the tension I'd been carrying lifted.
