Page 71 of His Wild Mate

“Sorry. Just some bad memories surfacing.”

He stepped closer, closing the gap between us. I raised my arms and wrapped them around his neck. He pressed his forehead to mine and breathed in my scent.

“I can't take the bad memories away, but I can replace them with good ones.”

I sighed and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.

“You already are.”

He grinned. “So dinner tonight?”

I groaned. “I walked right into that, didn't I?”

He shrugged and then kissed me again.

A throat cleared behind us and we both turned to see James standing in the room with Ernest right behind him.

“We don't want to interrupt you or anything, but thought you'd want to know that the cameras are done. I need to download a quick app on your phones and connect them. Then we're done.”

“Yeah, sure.”

Emmett walked back to the bedroom and got his off the nightstand.

“Where's the one I got you?”

He'd insisted on giving me a phone. Quietly I walked into the closet and retrieved it.

I handed the box to him. He looked down at it and then back up at me.

“It's still in the box?”

I nodded. “I kept it safe.”

“Safe? Babe, this is for you to keep on you at all times. It's so you can get in touch with me and I can call you when I need to.”

I looked down at the floor uncomfortably.

“What is it? You don't like it? We can return it for another phone. If it's just the color, you can pick out a case for it.”

“It's not that,” I said softly, embarrassed.

“Then what? Why aren’t you using it?”

“Because I don't know how,” I blurted out. “I've never had a cell phone before. I don't have a clue what to do with the thing.”

His smile told me he was trying not to laugh at me.

“It's okay. Come on. We'll let James do what he needs and then I'll give you a quick lesson.”

“Okay.”

I didn't like the idea of being tethered to a phone, but if it brought peace to my mate, then I supposed there was no harm in trying. I really did want to make him happy.

We headed back to the living room where James was waiting. Ernest was back at the table reading his newspaper. Once Emmett passed off the phones, it didn’t take James much time to completeit. When he showed me how to use it to access the camera footage, I couldn't even believe something like that was possible.

I wasn't entirely naïve to the world, but there were a lot of things I didn't know or understand. This was one of them.

“Wow. So we can see if anyone even comes onto property?” I asked.
