“You don’t belong here!”
I jerked back, his outburst shocking me, though it shouldn’t have.
“Boss.” A man peeked his head in the door, and Dominic turned his glare on him. “I apologize. I didn’t know you had company.”
“Speak!” Dominic shouted.
“You have a phone call. It’s important.”
Dominic’s eyebrow twitched and he turned back to me but didn’t say another word. A whistle rang from his lips, and a server approached.
“Give her whatever she wants.”
“Yes, sir.”
He glared at me once more, then left the room.
“Miss, would you like something to drink or eat?”
I nodded absently, my mind stuck on the fact that that man had called Dominic boss. Now, I was more curious than ever.
“Yes,” I said.
The server nodded as he handed me a folder. “This is our menu if you’d like to review it and tell me what you desire.”
I glanced down at the menu, mindlessly looking over the options. “Chicken wings, fries, tequila with lime, water.” I handed the menu back.
“I’ll be back with your drinks. Your food will be prepared fresh, so give it about twenty minutes.”
“Thank you.” He moved to scurry off.
“Hey…” He turned back. “Can I ask you a question?”
“Sure.”
“What’s the name of this place?”
He frowned but quickly answered me. “The Lu Billiards Club.”
My eyes widened. “This is Dameon Lucas’s club?”
“Yes, miss.”
“Oh….does Dominic work here?”
He frowned. “I’m sorry?”
“I just noticed the guy called him boss, so I assumed he works here.”
“Um…well, you must ask Dominic about his roles.”
“I mean, is he the boss, or isn’t he?”
“He’s definitely the boss.”
I nodded. “Okay. So that settles it. Wow. Amazing that he could work full-time at the school and run a billiards club. He’s the jack of all trades, it seems.”
The server peered at me, then nodded. “Yes, well, will there be anything else?”
