She walked to her kitchen, aware of Declan’s footsteps behind her. Candace raked her fingers through her hair. What was she doing? Declan’s mentioning of her husband had an unpredictable effect. She felt guilty, and they hadn’t even done anything. It was probably a sign that she wasn’t ready for whatever kind of fling she was attempting to begin here, But Candace wasn’t willing to admit that yet.

She pulled out a bottle of water from the fridge and a bottle of Gatorade for Declan. Her wine was still on the table outside, and frankly, she needed something to cool her down. He joined her at the kitchen bar and took the Gatorade. He drank it slowly, with his eyes on her breasts, pushing against the sheer, gauzy fabric of her cover up. He oscillated between staring at her breasts and trying to look elsewhere. Finally, it was too humorous to ignore.

“If you are going to be shy about staring at my breasts then you aren’t the boy I thought you were,” said Candace flippantly.

Declan smiled. His chocolate eyes gleamed with desire, a striking reminder that he wasn’t as much a boy as she had thought. Candace licked her lips. She felt a swarm of warm energy travel from her chest straight down into her moist core. She hadn’t felt it like this since she and her husband were dating. Now, Declan had awakened something that she was ready to have again. He leaned against the bar. The glimmer in his eyes broke a little as he cast them down to the slow and steady swell of her breast and then, back up into Candace’s curious gaze.

“Is that better?” he asked, teasingly. The look in his eyes, the crooked smile, were all implications that he’d known her intentions.

“Much. I hadn’t taken you for the type who would have to be coached into knowing what he wanted.”

“Not at all. I’ve known I've wanted you for a while, but with your husband and your sons my age…”

“Neither of which are here. Would it matter if they were?”

Declan seemed to think it over. His gaze drifted to a high point behind Candace, and she used the time to study his square jaw line and the deep carving of his chin. Her nipples pressed into the slick biking fabric creating a dense outline of perfect hard candy. Candace held her breath as the warmth that traveled through her before caused her center to pulse with desire. She could almost feel him. The smooth, porcelain touch of his fingers against her skin would surely raise her from the dead. Only if he wanted to. She was taking all the risk here. Candace couldn’t ignore that she was the one with everything to lose if the hot body in front of her got cold feet, or a conscience. She was hoping that all of her years of being a faithful wife would play into her favor now and grant her reprieve from consequences. She just wanted a little fun, a little excitement in her life again. Even if it were only for a summer, Candace wanted to remember what it felt like to be alive with desire.

Declan’s eyes returned to Candace’s tanned skin. His lips opened slightly, and she could see the turning wheels of his thoughts. “No. It wouldn’t matter. I would still want you.”

“So what do you propose we do about this…mutual desire?”

“That would be up to you Mrs. Hutchinson,”

“Candace, but you can call me Candy,” her words were dripping with innuendo, and Declan seemed to like it. “I’ve never had an affair so I don’t know the rules. I do know that the object is to enjoy ourselves…and not get caught.”

“You won’t get much disagreement from me. How long will your husband be out of town?”

“Another few days. He’ll be back for a week and then gone again. Maybe we just try it out. Tomorrow. I’ll leave the door unlocked, and you come over when you think the timing is right. If you don’t come, then I will know you’ve changed your mind.”

“I’ll see you tomorrow,” Declan said poignantly.

The words sent shivers down Candace’s spine. She circled around the bar to stand in front of him. The six foot two-inch-tall stud stared down at her from beneath lowered lids. Candace parted her mouth slightly, and his thumb grazed the skin of her chin. She closed her eyes, just as his mouth was upon her. A teasing nip, before a deep and sultry kiss, stole her breath. She weaved her arms around his neck as he pulled her body close to his. His cock, long and thick, pressed against her belly. Candace gasped at the size of it, bigger than her husband and more than she’d ever had. Declan’s hands roamed from the small of her back and down to cup her firm ass. She moaned as he gripped it tightly, and massaged here perfect round cheeks before letting them go.

Declan stepped back. Something in him seemed a little more subdued, but Candace could still see the growing lust swelling inside of him. It was the same lust, sprouting wings inside of her. He stepped from her embrace and walked toward the door.

“See you tomorrow,” he called over his shoulder.

She heard the door close securely. Candace struggled while waiting for her breathing to return to normal. A smile pushed her lips back to her ears. If his kiss were any indicator, then Declan would surely give her all she had been missing. She could feel it in her bones.

Chapter 3

It had felt more like a negotiation than romance. As Candace primped in front of the mirror the next morning, she thought of her conversation with Declan. It had been casual, cold even. It was void of the passion she’d felt for him, and Candace couldn't figure out why. She rolled her wedding band around her finger as she sat at her vanity. She thought of the vows she’d made to her husband and the choices they’d made to keep their marriage together. For so long, she’d been swallowing her loneliness or filling it with other things. She’d known that he was seeing some other women, and had hoped he would get them out of his system. He never had. Candace suspected he had women in every city he frequented, and it was a frustrating thing. Why then, did she feel so guilty? Was her betrayal any greater than his?

The question rang in her head with no answer. She wasn’t sure she even wanted one. Everyone in her life was getting what they needed except her. It was her turn to be selfish. Candace took the ring off her finger and dropped it into her jewelry box. She completed her makeup, seductive without being cake. It would be smeared and ruined by the time she was done, but it would add to the allure right now. Smokey eyes, delicate pink blush, and a deep red lipstick. She’d curled her hair, and now it hung loosely over either shoulder. The negligee she’d chosen was a soft black lace that revealed peeks of her newly tanned flesh. A floral perfume with a romantic scent covered her body. Her skin looked supple and soft, just the way she’d wanted it too. She pulled on the negligee’s matching robe. The finished product was a masterpiece Candace was sure Declan would like.

Declan would be here any minute. They hadn’t discussed a time, but she suspected he would wait until his parents left for work to come over. Then they would have the full day together. If that were what he wanted. Candace was sure it was what she wanted. Every minute of their time spent had to be hot. She didn't want to wake up with regrets, or worse, feeling guilty. When they were done today, she wanted it to cement her decision to go after what she wanted.

Candace walked down the staircase of her home toward her husband’s office. He had a great scotch locked in a drawer of his desk. He thought she didn’t’ know, didn’t have a key, but she did. Candace took a tumbler, unlocked the drawer, poured herself a glass. She replaced everything as it had been, and walked from his office. She found Declan in the hallway. His eyes studied her intently. Candace hadn’t heard the click of her front door or the sound of his footsteps.

“I see you decided to join me.” She felt a little breathless.

He smiled a crooked smile, his eyes roaming her body. “Why would I have changed my mind?”

“Well, I wasn't sure you were into it. I mean, you gotta admit the way we discussed this didn’t sound very…passionate,” she said over her shoulder as he walked behind her.

Candace took a sip of her scotch. She was starting to get nervous now that he was here. She took another sip as they passed the sidebar near the entrance of the main living area. Then, she felt his fingers on the small of her back. The press of his palm against her slowed her walk. Declan spun her around and walked close. His nearness pushed her against the wall, and Candace exhaled a weighted breath. She stared into the depths of his eyes as he took the glass from her hand and planted it on the sidebar. Her breath stirred, and her chest tightened as he stood back to look at her. Declan’s vacant expression made her wonder what he was thinking, up until the moment he pushed the corners of her robe from her shoulders.

His eyes stayed there, on the bridge of her nose, and became lost in her gaze as Candace’s breath came in whispery forms. His fingers trailed against the hollow of her throat and then down between the cleavage of her breasts. Her eyes fluttered closed. She didn’t see him come closer, but she felt the warmth taking over her body and knew by the way her skin tingled all over. His mouth was on her throat now, while his hands groped at her full breast and teased her hardening nipples.
