Gage stood. “I’ll go, and I agree. None of them should be on their own.”
Kaleb stood, walked to a small bar, and poured something into four glasses. He brought them back, handed him and Darian one, and set Gage’s off to the side. “I think we’re all going to need this.”
Ridge laughed and took a sip. Damn, Darian always had the best-tasting scotch. He really needed to get the name of his supplier.
Gage’s voice turned Ridge’s attention to the screen again.
“Let’s go, girls.”
“But, Daddy…”
“Brylee, don’t argue with me, Baby. I want you all dressed and downstairs in ten minutes.”
All the girls gasped.
“Daddy, we can’t get ready that fast. We’re girls.”
Ridge chuckled.
Gage shook his head. “All you have to do is dry off and put on clothes. You don’t have to worry about drying your hair or bows for your head.”
Ridge thought it was hilarious when all the girls acted as if he had smacked them.
Ridge almost lost it when Gage sighed. “Tell you what. Who’s not downstairs in the office in ten minutes will get spanked.”
Ridge’s eyes widened as all the girls tumbled out of the tub, grabbed a towel, and raced into another room. Gage chuckled when they were all gone, stuck his hand in the water to drain the tub, and used a towel to wipe up the water on the floor.
A few minutes later, Gage walked back into the room and lifted his glass to his mouth for a long drink. Then, he started counting down from ten. Ridge heard the girls racing down the stairs and into the office at number six.
All six stood in front of them. He had to bite the inside of his lip again. All six clothes were askew, with shirts not buttoned up the right way, or their shorts were backward. None of them had on shoes, two of them had on one sock. Their long hair was still wet or dripping down the front of their shirts.
Darian stood up, walked to the door, shut, and locked it. When he turned back, all the girls stepped closer, took each other’s hands, and nervously started to bite their lips or fidget.
Darian stood in front of the women and crossed his arms. “Girls, look behind you and tell me what you see.”
All six turned and saw the bathroom they’d been in, and one by one, they gasped when they realized what that meant.
Ellie turned beet red, and the other girls stared at her.
Larkin squeezed her hand. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.
Ellie raised her chin. “We were just pretending…”
If anything, the girls got tenser when Darian scowled. “Listen, honey, me, Gage, and Kaleb can’t spank your ass, but I bet if I ask Ridge, he’d do me that favor.”
Ellie’s gaze nervously darted to him and then back.
“So, do you want to think about your story a bit?” Darian asked.
Something tugged at his heart when the girl’s eyes filled with tears.
Ellie shook her head. “It’s me…”
The men frowned, but Darian asked. “What’s you, honey?”
“Something’s wrong with me…”
The girls gasped and surrounded her. They were telling her it wasn’t true, that she was a good person.
