“You’re right,” Olivia said.
It felt good to be out and about again. They walked at a leisurely pace, in no hurry to get anywhere.
The sun felt good on her fur, and the birds singing was pure music for her soul. The sweet smell of the forest was heady, although it couldn’t overwhelm Zac’s scent that stayed with her.
They stopped by the creek, which was cool and clear. The pure water was refreshing and perhaps even a little healing.
Olivia hated to go back, although she was starting to get a little tired. It would have been pure heaven if she could have stayed in the woods all day. She had finally found peace and felt safe.
After a brief nap, Olivia drove by Zac’s house. He wasn’t home. Although she didn’t look forward to seeing Tami again, she went by his office.
Tami stood up and crossed her arms when she saw Olivia walk in.
“What in the hell do you want?” she asked.
“I need to talk to Zac,” Olivia said.
“Not going to happen,” Tami said. “He’s not here. Even if he was, he doesn’t want to talk to you. I don’t know if you are stupid or what, but in case you haven’t noticed, he’s blocked your number. He wants nothing to do with you. You caused him, Ian, and the others to get hurt when your boyfriend came to town.”
“Declan wasn’t my boyfriend, and I had no control over that,” Olivia said.
Her heart exploded and she couldn’t breathe. It never occurred to her that Zac was avoiding her because he hated her. How stupid could she be?
“I don’t give a rat’s ass and neither does Zac. He’s done with you. You need to just go back and crawl under whatever hole you came from.” Tami sneered at her. “Just by you coming here caused us all kinds of trouble.”
Olivia looked at Tami for a minute and then pressed her lips together.
“Let him know I stopped by. I have something important to tell him,” Olivia said, and she walked to the door.
“He doesn’t care and doesn’t want to hear it,” Tami called after her.
She sat in her car and cried. Her soul was shattered, and her stomach was tied into knots. This was exactly why she hadn’t wanted to fall in love with Zac, especially when she found out that he was an alpha. She didn’t want to get hurt. Now, she was completely destroyed.
Feeling lost, Olivia drove around for a while. Then, when her stomach started to rumble, she went to Howlers’, hoping that Zac was there for dinner. He wasn’t.
Olivia sat at the bar and ordered dinner.
Jade took one look at her face and asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I can’t get ahold of Zac. I tried calling him and texting him, but I never got an answer. I went to his house, and he wasn’t there. I went to his office and Tami told me that he blocked my number because he doesn’t want anything to do with me. She said that he blamed me for what happened with Declan. It’s my fault that he, Ian, Sean, and the others got hurt,” Olivia said, wiping a tear from her eye.
“I didn’t mean for any of this to happen. I just came here, thinking I was going to stay for a week or so and move on. I didn’t mean to fall in love with him or cause any trouble for anyone else.”
Olivia thought that her words sounded weak, as though she was saying a little too much too late. Her father always told her that words were meaningless.
“What are you going to do?” Jade asked.
“I don’t know,” Olivia said. “To make matters worse, I found out that I was pregnant while I was in the hospital. Declan and his goons didn’t hurt the baby.”
Jade smiled and said, “That’s wonderful. I know that Zac would want to know about the baby. He would be a great father.”
“I can’t tell him, though,” Olivia said. “He’s blocked my calls and given orders at his office that I’m not to be let in to see him.”
“I could find him and tell him,” Jade said.
“That’s sweet, but I don’t think that’s a good idea. If he doesn’t want anything to do with me, I don’t want to force him, just because there is a baby. He might resent the baby,” Olivia said.
“What are you going to do?” Jade asked.
