“Thank you,” she said. “Between concentrating on how I’m walking and not spilling the food and drinks, my brain is tired at the end of the day.”

Zac laughed. “Sean tells me that you’re doing a great job, so keep focusing.”

“Watch, now that we’ve talked about it, I’m going to trip on an imaginary stick or something and fall flat on my face. You’ve probably jinxed me,” she said. “So, when I fall, it’s going to be all your fault.”

He shook his head vigorously and said, “Nope. Can’t blame me for your two left feet.”

A couple walked in, and he watched her greet them with a smile and get them settled. He was done with his meal and he was tired. It had been a long day. But, he figured that he might as well give it one more shot.

“I know that you don’t want to go out on a date with me, but what about going to the carnival with me? It’s going to be in the next town over in a couple of days. It doesn’t have to be as a date or anything. We’d just be going as casual acquaintances, who go to a carnival, in the same vehicle, eat some stuff, play some games, ride some rides, and then go back home in the same vehicle. Nothing fancy or anything,” Zac said, grinning.

“It does sound very unromantic when you put it that way. If I wanted to go to the same carnival that you wanted to go to, it would only make sense that we save the environment and carpool,” Olivia said. “Let me think about it.”

He nodded. It’s better than the no that I usually get from her.

Olivia

What in the hell were you thinking? Olivia asked herself as soon as she walked away from the table. I should have told him no, just like I did before. I can’t afford to get involved with anyone here. It’s even worse because he is an alpha. It’s bad enough that I’ll be hanging out with Jade.

“Are you really going to go out with him?” Jade asked.

Sighing heavily, Olivia shrugged her shoulders and said, “I don’t know. Wait, you could hear that from behind the bar?”

“I have exceptionally good hearing, and I might have been paying close attention to the conversation,” Jade said, nonchalantly, shrugging her shoulders.

“You’re an eavesdropper,” Olivia said, pointing at Jade and laughing.

“Guilty as charged. I’m very nosy,” Jade replied. “I like to know what’s going on with everyone, although I never repeat what I know. I’m a collector of knowledge, not a purveyor of information.”

Olivia laughed and said, “I don’t know if I’ll go. I’m afraid of getting too involved with him and then having to leave.”

“You may not have to leave. Declan may not track you here, and he might just give up. Kind of an out of sight, out of mind deal,” Jade said.

“I hope so, but I don’t know,” Olivia said. “I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”

“Meanwhile, even if you do end up leaving town, which I hope you don’t, because I really like you, you may as well enjoy yourself while you’re here.”

“You know that is a very convoluted run-on sentence,” Olivia asked. “But, I like you, too.”

“What are you, an English teacher?” Jade asked, laughing.

“I wanted to be one, when I was younger. Then, I figured out that Declan probably wouldn’t let me.”

“That’s frustrating,” Jade said. “I’ve always wanted to be a nurse. I’m saving up to pay for school. I don’t want to be hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt with student loans before I even start working.”

“That’s understandable,” Olivia said.

They got busy and Olivia was tired when she got back to her room. After her shower, she fell into bed, expecting to fall asleep. Instead, she was thinking about going to the carnival with Zac. She had already decided that she was going to tell him that she would go with him. As Jade said, she was hoping to stay in Angel’s Creek for a while, and she might as well have a good time while she was here.

In her heart, though, she knew that it was a lot more than that. There was some kind of pull between her and Zac. She hoped that she could figure it out before it drove her crazy. Once again, she pictured his sexy body standing by the creek. Her fingers itched to explore him, touching every inch of his hard body.

Olivia pictured his face and licked her lips. She imagined Zac’s mouth pressed against hers.

Declan had never been demonstrative with her, so she could only imagine what a truly passionate kiss might feel like, with their bodies pressed together and their arms wrapped around each other. She wondered if it would be like how it was described in the books.

A warmth spread between her legs, and she reached down to find the hard nub. She rubbed it, imagining that it was Zac touching her. She lightly pinched her nipples and pulled on them, sending a tingling sensation through her body. Olivia imagined Zac’s fingers and hands roaming her body, igniting her.
