“Please tell me that this is just one of your stupid practical jokes,” Zac pleaded.

“I wish I could, Brother. As God is my witness,” Ian said. “I think that she had her phone out ready to take notes.”

“Please tell me that you told her that the best way she could win my love was to move to another state for the next decade,” Zac said.

“I don’t think she would have believed that. I just told her that if she wanted to get your attention, she should just be herself and act normally. You hated any kind of over the top behavior, and you would definitely hate it if she started being a pain in the ass,” Ian said. “I told her that you wouldn’t like being chased.”

“What are the chances that she is going to take your advice and just leave me alone?” Zac asked.

“I would say that there’s about a snowball’s chance in hell of that,” Ian said. “She’s not one who has the patience to wait for you to notice her. I think that she’s going to be making sure you know exactly how she feels.”

“She already has been. She approached Olivia and me at the restaurant and basically insinuated that she took care of all of my needs as my personal assistant,” Zac said. “She’s also asked me to some of her family functions.”

“Pretty soon, she going to start bringing you gifts and wearing lingerie to the office,” Ian said.

“You’re trying to give me a coronary, aren’t you?” Zac said.

“I just know that this type of behavior, like violence, tends to escalate,” Ian protested.

“I should have a conversation with her. Stay here, so that I have a witness,” Zac said.

“Are you sure that it’s a good idea?”

“No, but neither is letting her think that she has a chance,” Zac said. He opened the door and said, “Tami, please come in.”

Zac felt very awkward and wasn’t sure exactly what to say. He fumbled around for the right words. Finally, he decided he would just be honest.

“Tami, I want you to know that I appreciate your work as my personal assistant. You are a good employee and a good person. However, that is the extent of my feelings. You are my employee and a member of the pack. Nothing more and nothing less,” Zac said.

“It’s because of her, isn’t it?” Tami said.

“No. It’s just the way it is. I’m going to find you another job where you can shine and continue doing a great job,” Zac said.

“No, Alpha, please don’t do that. I promise that I will keep our relationship professional,” Tami pleaded.

Zac looked at Ian, who shrugged his shoulders.

“For now,” Zac said.

That was as far as he was willing to promise. He had a feeling that Tami wouldn’t be able to keep everything professional very long. Meanwhile, he would make appointments with his other two candidates for her position.

Tami nodded and left his office. He could see the tears she was holding back.

“Well said,” Ian praised him. “I recorded the conversation, and I’ll make a note about it. You can’t be too careful these days.”

“It sucks that everyone is sitting around waiting to see who is going to stab them in the back,” Zac said. “To change the subject, Olivia went on a run yesterday and met Marsden.”

“Really?” Ian asked.

“Apparently, she was relaxing by the creek, and Marsden offered to show her an even more beautiful place. Olivia had a bad feeling about her and was going to decline the offer, but then Marvin showed up and shooed Marsden away,” Zac said.

“Did you warn Olivia about shifting in the woods alone?”

“I did. To be honest, after dealing with Declan and his stupidity and now Marsden, I wouldn’t be surprised if she did just pack up and leave. Being constantly afraid of every shadow has to be exhausting,” Zac said, running his fingers through his hair.

“I can’t believe that the man is chasing her down because of a prophecy and a supposed curse,” Ian said. “You would think that people would have more sense these days.”

“People believe in them, and supposedly, there are some people who have the gift of sight. They can see what the future holds for others,” Zac said. “I remember a few years ago when the psychics were advertising online and even a former first lady consulted a psychic every morning before she did anything.”
