“You’ll be fine. That small hole in your shoulder will heal in a couple of days. Put this poultice on it and change it out with these herbs every four hours and you’ll be right as rain.”

Carolyn used a straw to put a couple of drops of water into Angie’s mouth. “I know you want more, but we have to be careful. You will get sick if you get too much at once.”

“Thank you,” Angie said.

She closed her eyes and fell asleep. When she woke up, Dr. Jen was back.

“She needs that second pint of blood. It’s on its way.”

Noah sat in a chair, out of the way, holding her hand. He smiled at her when he saw her looking at him. She smiled back and then fell back asleep.

Angie’s eyes popped open the next day. She was freezing. A couple minutes later, she was burning up. She could hear Carolyn talking to the doctor.

“Red streaks are going down her side. She has an infection.” Carolyn paused and then said, “Right away.”

“You’re awake,” Carolyn said.

“I’m so hot,” Angie moaned.

“I know. You have a fever because your side is infected. However, I have an herb poultice that will pull the infection out of your wound, and I have some antibiotics for you to take.”

Carolyn lifted her head so that she could take the pills.

“Noah?”

“He’s fine. He was here earlier but had to go to work. I’m sure that he’ll be back to visit later.”

“Apollo?”

“Up and walking around slowly,” Carolyn reported.

Noah came by that evening.

“How are you feeling?”

“Did you get the name of that train conductor who ran my ass over?” Angie asked.

“Yes, as a matter of fact, I did. Two of them have been put out of their misery and two of them have been sent to an island that makes Siberia look like Cancun,” Noah said.

“A little vacation, huh?”

“For the rest of their miserable lives.”

“How is your shoulder?” Angie asked.

“Just fine, see?”

Angie was astonished to see that it was almost healed.

“It’s one of the perks of being a shifter,” Noah said.

He hung out for a while until Angie started to get sleepy. He kissed her on the forehead and promised, “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

Angie called Flora to let her know what happened.

“Tell me how to get to your apartment,” Flora said.

“You’re sweet, but Apollo and I have a friend here who is nursing us back to health. You don’t have any more vacation time. I’ll be back in the human world once I heal to visit and take care of business.”
