The woman at the reception desk said that they didn’t take walk-ins. Angie waved a hundred-dollar bill at her and suddenly the policy changed.
“Wow, you have gorgeous hair,” Angie exclaimed as the beautician pulled Carolyn’s hair out of the bun.
The thick black hair hung midway down her back.
After a brief discussion, the beautician got to work. When he was finished, Carolyn’s hair was shoulder length. It was naturally curly. He parted it on the side and fluffed it over Carolyn’s ears.
“You look adorable,” Angie exclaimed.
Apollo barked his agreement.
“All you have to do is brush it out like this while blow drying your hair. It frames your face perfectly. I agree with the young lady. You are adorable.”
The man gushed over Carolyn, making her blush. Angie gave him a huge tip, which made him insist that Carolyn come to see him once a month to “Get her hair did.”
“Let’s go to the optometrist,” Angie said.
“Why? I don’t have an appointment for six months.”
“It doesn’t have to be your doctor. One of those eyeglass places will be fine.”
“Okaaaay,” Carolyn said, drawing out the word.
A half hour later, Carolyn had some contacts ordered. They also found some frames that suited Carolyn’s face better than the clunky black frames.
“Look at how the right frames can make such a huge difference,” Angie said.
“Wow,” Carolyn said.
Angie loved the huge smile that spread across Carolyn’s face. She had never been involved in a makeover before, but now she could see why there were television shows that featured them. It was addicting.
“Now, let’s go back to that shopping center. I’m sure that baggy clothes are comfortable and I wear them often. However, I think once you find a few outfits that flatter your figure, you will see that you have been hiding a beautiful woman.”
“You’ve helped me enough,” Carolyn protested. “You didn’t come here to spend all your time with me.”
“Hush your mouth,” Angie said, grinning. “You are my first friend in the shifter world. Noah is busy. I’m getting a chance to see the shifter world for the first time in ten years. And I don’t know about you, but I’m having fun.”
“It is fun,” Carolyn admitted shyly. “But I don’t understand why you are doing all of this. You don’t even know me. I could be one of the big baddies in the shifter world and I don’t have any friends because I bully everyone.”
“Apollo loves you. If you were that kind of a person, he would know it and wouldn’t let you pet him. He would either growl at you or avoid you,” Angie said. “Plus, I’m a great judge of character. In fact, I don’t think that I’ve ever been wrong about a person.”
They found a clothing store and Carolyn picked out some outfits that were similar to what she always wore. Apollo laid on the floor and put his paws over his eyes and whined.
“I agree with Apollo,” Angie said. “Put those back.”
They went through several racks of clothing and Angie chose several outfits.
“Go try these on,” she said.
Carolyn did as she was told.
“Look at yourself in the mirror,” Angie said.
“That doesn’t even look like me,” Carolyn said, astonished.
“Nope. It is the new you. The confident you.”
Angie paid for the clothes in spite of Carolyn’s protests. “I’ve got more money than I can spend in a lifetime, even with all of the charities I help with. Let me do this for you. It makes me happy.”
