Noah knew that there would likely be some grumbles, but very few, if anyone, would leave the pack.

He reached down, petted Rufus, and said, “What do you think about all of this?”

The dog barked.

Noah called Elijah and Keith and had them meet in his office an hour later.

“Selena found out that Angie is human and told Abner. The old man came in earlier and demanded that I send Angie back to the human world and end my ties with her. He said I would be making a grave mistake if I didn’t cancel the mating ceremony.”

“I imagine that went over like a ton of bricks,” Keith said.

“It did. Tonight, I’m going to tell Angie that I’m in love with her, she is my fated mate, and ask her to go through the mating ceremony with me. If she agrees, I’ll make the announcement tomorrow and will let everyone know she is a mundane human.”

“We got your six,” Elijah said.

“Angie will need it, too. A couple people might be ballsy enough to say something to me, but the majority will target Angie.”

“We’ll keep our eyes and ears out,” Keith said.

“I appreciate it,” Noah replied.

They left and Noah leaned back in his chair and laced his fingers behind his head. “That’ll shake up everyone’s world. I guess I better find a ring.”

Carolyn dropped by after Noah left. “Did you tell Noah what happened at the gala?”

“Not all of it. I just told him a jealous cat used me as a scratching post and I handled the situation. He’s not stupid and probably has figured out who, but hopefully, he trusts me when I say that I dealt with her.”

Carolyn growled. “She needs to be punished. For all she knows, she attacked her future luna.”

“If it happens again, I’ll let Noah know. But speaking of being the next luna, I’m going to talk to Noah tonight. I’ve fallen in love with him and can’t imagine my life without him. I’ll tell him that if he still wants me to, I’ll go through the mating ceremony with him.”

Carolyn jumped up and hugged Angie. “That is so amazing. You’ll be a great luna.”

“There are going to be people who have a problem with it,” Angie said.

“You might be surprised. There will be some who grumble about it at first, but then another situation or event will come up and distract them. They’ll figure out that you are a great luna and find something else to complain about.”

“I hope so,” Angie said.

“I have your back,” Carolyn said.

“You’re a good friend,” Angie said.

Just then, there was a loud banging on her door. Abner stormed into the apartment as soon as Angie opened the door.

“I found out your secret,” Abner said.

“What secret is that?” Angie asked.

“Don’t play stupid with me. I know that you’re a mundane human and that my damned son and his wife adopted you at birth. You are a disgrace.”

“First of all, don’t ever speak about my parents like that again. They were finer human beings than you could ever hope to be. As for me being a disgrace – well, you are entitled to your opinion however wrong and bigoted it might be,” Angie said defiantly, locking eyes with her grandfather and holding her head up high.

“No one will accept you.”
