When he looks down at me, the genuine shock on his face satisfies me a tad. “Say what?”

My body tingles with electricity as I slide my hand down to hold Greg’s and intertwine our fingers. I drag him toward the staircase. “I want to wear that super-short dress I bought. It’ll drive you wild. Don’t wait up, Dad! And you owe my man an apology tomorrow.” I can’t call him my husband. It’s excruciating.

I crush Greg’s fingers between mine, expressing my boiling anger. I don’t know which man I hate more tonight.

REACHING SIMONE’S BEDROOM, she drops my hand. As soon as I close the door, she whisper-screeches, her voice trembling with anger, “What the fuck is your problem? We were supposed to break up!”

I shrug as a wave of nausea hits me. I haven’t been in this room since that night.

“Greg. God. What...? What happened to you?”

“Goddamn it, Simone! Torture? You think you’re tortured? Do you want to hear how I let a guy suck my dick while others watched? Do you want to hear that? Hmm? Or would you rather hear how I let a girl fuck me right after him?”

“Shut the fuck up! I’m not telling my parents! I shouldn’t have told you! All you did was use me for a laugh!”

I lean against the wall as Simone stomps around her room, flailing her arms and hissing like a pissed-off cobra.

Unusual for Simone, she uses as few words as possible. “How? I’m stuck with you!” Her angry whispering grates me.

So, I argue louder. “You could’ve just dumped me as planned! You know! Again!”

She points at the door and hisses, “Shut up! He might hear you!”

“Cool. Maybe he’ll think we’re fucking.” I move closer to the door and close my eyes, moaning, “Oh, yeah, baby. Faster. Harder. I love fighting with you. Oh, God. Slurp it just like that. I’m your real daddy.”

A pillow hits me in the face, and I bang my head on the door. When I look down, I notice a pink heart-shaped pillow at my feet. I rub the side of my head with a scowl as I throw her a middle finger. “Ouch, bitch!”

“Get the fuck away from the door, Rod!”

“You gave me brain damage!”
