“Jackie called and said he’d like to go to my graduation. So...”

“Huh? You’re kicking me out?”

“I know you’re so broken about it, but please. Get over it.”

Finn laughs as he throws out his hands, jiggling keys. “I want to see you graduate, but Mom and Jack will take pictures and video.” Finn nods toward the back of the field. “Walk with me.”

“Okay. I see Mrs. Wilder improved your mood.”

“As always.”

“I heard.”

“We weren’t that loud.”

I impersonate his deep voice. “Oh, damn. You’re so fucking hot, Becks. I won’t last long.” I switch to a higher-pitched voice. “Give it to me, Sparks. Oh, God! I’m coming! Finn!” I then moan, and Finn shoves me off the sidewalk.

He looks behind us and glares at me. “Can you stop listening to me making love to my wife? It’s gross, Simone.”

“Making love to her is gross? Well, for me, it is.”

“I meant that your listening is gross.”

“Whisper next time. I could compile a damn greatest hits of you two. It’s a little much when you have sex every damn day.”

Finn puts his arm over my shoulder. “Hadley and I don’t fuck every day. We have a kid and jobs. I don’t know what you think marriage is like, but that’s not it.”

“Such bullshit, Wilderness.”

“We try to make love as often as possible, but it doesn’t always happen. I hate asking, but how about you and Rodwell?”

“You’ve never heard me having sex with him.”

“As much as you run your mouth, I doubt you have.” Finn groans and shakes his head. “Please tell me you’re not fucking him this time, Sims.”

“Okay. I won’t.”

He mutters, “Shit. Why? This whole ruse ends when your dad leaves. Probably this weekend, right?”

“Yes. So?”

“What happens after that?”

“He gets on a plane and gets as fucking far away as possible. Greg is going to law school here.”

Finn puts his hands on his hips and tilts his head back like he’s praying to God that’s not true. When he looks at me, he squints from the sun and sighs. I notice he hooked his sunglasses into a hip pocket. “There’s no way you dust off your hands and move on from him.”

“Why not?”

“Why did you previously marry him? For real? It’s not about your dad’s money.”

“It sure the hell is. I can’t afford tuition.”

“Newsflash: no one can. That’s why school loans, grants, scholarships, and whatnot exist. It took years for Hadley to pay off her school loan. I bet Rodwell is still paying on his.”

I shrug. “I’ve never asked him.”

He stares at the street and is quiet. When I think he’s done talking, he looks back at me. “Come on. Are you in love with Greg Rodwell?”
