Page 44 of Protecting Siena

When she looks up at me again, I can see the devastation written all over her face. “I love you.” She whispers. Her lip trembles and she bites it to keep her hurt from showing. Using my thumb, I pull her lip out of her teeth, and pull her mouth to mine.

“I love you more. I’m sorry.” She shakes her head, and kisses me gently. Her forehead rests against my lips and I take in her sent. I love her more than she’ll ever know.

“You had no choice.” Her voice ends on a choked whisper, and I know that even though she believes it, it still hurts her. “I’m just glad you’re here with me.”

I wipe the tears under her eyes and she buries her face into my neck, taking a deep breath. Once she does this, she sits up and gets out of my lap. She trying to show me that she’s strong, but I already know she is. She’s been so strong for the last five months, and I would never change my opinion of her.

“Baby you can be mad at me. I get it. He’s your father and you love him. I’ll take your anger. I just don’t want you to bottle this shit up.” She doesn’t say anything; she just buries her body into mine. Sighing, I just hold her.

We spend another half hour just sitting in this position. When I finally go to stand up, I help her pack the stuff she brought with her, and I walk to the car she stashed in the back, just like I told her to. Putting her bags inside, I help her into the driver’s seat and lean down to kiss her lips.

“Tony may come after us.” I murmur when I start to pull away.

She pales, and I know that she’s afraid of him. Her brother and Tony are the only two that would be able to take over Xavier’s empire. Everyone else that’s left are just low level thugs that wouldn’t know what to fucking do with it.

“He will kill you.” She whispers.

“I’d like to see him try. I have too much to live for. I won’t go down without a fight.” I put my hand to her belly and I feel our baby kick my hand. She looks up at me and gives me a pained smile.

“Siena, everything is going to be okay.” I press my lips against hers, and she sighs and wraps her arms around my neck, pulling me closer to her. Crouching in her open door, I let her set the pace. I’m just so fucking happy that I’m going to get to meet our child. I was skeptical for a while when I was heading back to Vegas.

“I know. I trust you.” I smile against her lips before pulling away.

“Follow me.” She nods, and I shut her door and watch her start her car.

The drive back to the house seems like it’s the longest drive of my life, but I’m glad to be getting her home. Back to our little slice of heaven. Putting the car in park in the driveway, the headlights illuminate the porch. I see the door open, and Gully stands there watching us. Getting out, I walk over to him and hand him the keys. He takes them from me, and walks with me over to Siena.

“Hey Gully.” She says quietly. He pulls her in for a hug, and I see the tears start to fall down her cheeks.

“Hey Siena. I’m glad you’re okay.”She smiles and looks over his shoulder at me.

“Sloane’s done a pretty good job at keeping me safe.”

He nods and I grab her bags out of the backseat and set them on the ground next to us. She grabs her small bag, and Gully grabs a couple of the other bigger bags. I pick up the last ones and grab her hand, leading her inside.

After we drop all of her bags in our room, I show Gully one of the extra rooms. He kicks off his boots and collapses back on the bed. “You guys have a pretty good set up here.” I grin and lean back against the wall.

“Yeah, but someone was in town the other day asking about us.” He sits up and looks at me. “You know who was here?” He nods and grabs searches his pocket, but comes up empty. We tossed his phone somewhere between Vegas and here. Couldn’t take the chance of someone finding us.

“If he shows up again, I’ll deal with him.” he states with a serious tone. I nod, but I don’t say anything else. Walking out of his room, I head into the living room and check the front door. Opening the curtains, I scan the yard and then make my way to the back door that’s in the kitchen. When I know that every door is locked, I finally make my way back to the bed where Siena is lying down.

Opening the door quietly, I see her laying on her side curled up in a ball. She doesn’t move when I close the door behind me. She must have been tired. Stripping down, I leave my clothes in a pile by the bathroom door and make my way inside to shower. Blood is caked on my arm and down my side, and I feel like shit.

Starting the shower, I wait for the water to warm up before I step inside and let it coat my body and ease some of the soreness out of me.
