Page 35 of Protecting Siena

After getting Siena dressed, we are now standing in a tiny ass fucking grocery store that looks like it’s from the thirties. We grab a cart and start to look at the variety of things on the shelves. We grab some necessities, and then she grabs a few things to help with her nausea.

She hasn’t thrown up yet and I’m glad for that. I hate seeing people puke and watching her do it is going to suck. I hate seeing her hurting or sick. When we’re done shopping, I get in line and she puts her face on my chest. I’m pretty much holding up most of her weight, but I’m fine with that.

“Good thing I didn’t give you my dick again. You might have been puking on me.” I see the guy in front of me ears get red, and I know he heard me. This town probably isn’t really ready for us.

She pinches my side and I can’t help but laugh. “You’re an ass.”

“Proud of it, babe.” I kiss her forehead, and she sighs.

When it’s finally our turn, I unload everything on the conveyer and the lady looks over at Siena and frowns. “Oh no, are you sick sweetheart?” She shakes her head no and walks over to me and puts her head back on my shoulder.

“She’s nauseous.” I give the lady a warm smile and Siena wraps her arms around one of mine.

“Saltines will be a lifesaver if you’re nauseous through your whole pregnancy.” She says, holding the box up.

“Thank you.” Siena says quickly. The lady behind the register smiles back and continues to scan the items.

“One hundred fifty-two dollars and sixty three cents is your total.” The lady says. I hand her enough cash and the bag boy watches me put the rest back into my wallet. When I look over at him, I smirk and he turns his head quickly.

“Thank you so much for shopping with us. We hope to see you soon.” She has a bright smile on her face, and I thank her and take my change from her outstretched hand.

When the kid is done bagging our stuff he looks up at me like he’s nervous or something. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I just wait for him to say something. “Can I help you guys out?” What the hell. I’m curious to see why he’s eyeing me the way he is.

“Yeah that would be great.” He pushes the cart out in front of us, and I wrap my arm around Siena and walk with her out to the car.

“That one right there.” I point out the car when we get to the parking lot. Popping the trunk, I walk over to the passenger side and help Siena in before I go and help the kid.

“Did you just move here?” The kid finally asks, breaking the silence.

“Yeah, last night.” I reply putting a bag into the trunk.

“You have a lot of cash. You on the run?” He looks at me, and I just watch him.

“Why would you think I’m on the run?” I raise an eyebrow and he shrinks back.

“The cash, the sick girl, I don’t know. Just made sense.” He continues to stick the few remaining bags in the trunk, and I wait for him to finish before I close it.

“Naw, she’s pregnant and feels like crap. The money? It’s for everything we need to get setup here. Just moved.” He nods his head, but doesn’t say anything else, which is fine by me. Listening to the little punk makes me remember why I hate small towns. Everyone knows everyone else’s business, whether you want them to or not.

The kid starts to walk back towards the store with the cart and I get in and start the car. Looking over at Siena, her eyes are closed and she’s curled up against the window. I need to get her home and in bed.

By the time we get back, it’s starting to get dark, and my stomach is growling. Putting the car in park, I shut off the engine and walk over to Siena’s side to get her out of the car and carry her inside. Putting her on the bed in the master bedroom, I pull her jeans off and leave her in just a tee shirt. After I tuck her in, I make my way down the hall and into the kitchen to put everything away.

When I’m done, I make a sandwich and take a seat at the table to eat. The whole house is quiet and it’s kind of peaceful. In seven months or so, we won’t get the quiet anymore. We’ll have a little one crying and laughing in this place, and even as scared as I am to be a father, I’m excited too.

I already know that Siena is going to be an amazing mother; I just hope that I’ll be a better father than mine ever was to me. “Slade?” Her voice sounds raspy and when I look towards the hall, I see her rubbing her eyes.

“Yeah baby?” I look her and she comes walking over towards me. She sits in my lap and wraps her arms around my neck.

“Come lay with me.” She pokes out her bottom lip and I have a hard time saying no to her. Picking her up, I turn off the lights and walk over to the front door to lock it before making my way down the hall and into the bedroom. Setting her back on the bed, I pull the blankets over her legs and start to undress.

Once I slide into the bed, Siena curls up against my body and holds me tight. “You feeling better yet?” She shakes her head no, and I feel her breath fan out across my stomach.

Closing my eyes, I listen to the sounds of her breathing and try to fall asleep.

The sound of Siena throwing up wakes me from my sleep, and I get out of bed quickly and go to her side. Holding her hair back, I look for a towel in the cabinets right next to the toilet. Coming up empty, I just sit with her while she keeps throwing up.

When she finally stops a few minutes later, I flush the toilet and pull her into my lap. She curls her body around mine. She’s sweaty, tired, and looks like she’s about to throw up at any moment.
