Harlow shrugged and then pulled out hercell phone. It took her less than a minute to find Smokey’s numberand as soon as she did, she pressedDial and placed her cell against herear.

“Harlow, stop.”

“Nope, not happening. I’m notstopping.”

Smokey, much to her surprise, actuallyanswered. “Why are you calling me?”

“Lovely to hear from you too. Can Raventell me why she’sguarding the bakery?”

“Damn it, Harlow. Give me the damnphone.”Raven roundedthe counter, and Harlow was able to dodge her hand, but it did takeher into the back of the shop, providing a large table betweenthem. Every time Raven moved to get closer, Harlow moved theopposite way.

She had six brothers and had played thisgame often. Harlow always had to try and avoidthem or she often ended up with her headseverely rubbed or tickled to the point where she almost wetherself. Brothers were dicks.

“Is Raven there with you?” Smokeyasked.

“Yes, she is currently trying to steal thephone from me, and don’t go thinking she spilled some kind of club secrets. Once youput all the facts together, it’s pretty easy to come up with aviable solution. So easy. Too easy.” She kept a hand up to ward offRaven.

The other woman looked like she was readyto come across the counter. All the baked goods be damned.

“Try it and then you’ll have to explain all of this waste toAva.”

“I think it would be easy to do that.”

“Put Raven on the phone,” Smokey said.

“You can attempt to lie to me, but it neverworks. I think I should just warn you of that, and if you want Avato be protected, give methe heads up about any potential threats. I can help. Ask mybrother.”

She tossed her cell phone across the counterand watched Raven as she caught it, without fumbling with it.

“It’s me,” Raven said.

She didn’t hear what was being said, butwhile Raven was distracted, she used that opportunity to get backto the main shop. Raven didn’t try to run after her. She consideredthat a win.

The moment she got to the main counter, three people entered while Raven continued to talk to Smokey in theback. She had gotten quiet, so she couldn’thear what was being said, which did pissher off, but she kept a smile on her face as she helped thecustomers.

When the last one left, Raven came backthrough to themain partof the shop and handed her back the cell phone. Harlow took a quickglance to make sure it was all working and she hadn’t deleted orchanged anything. In fact, therewasa change. Raven had put her number into the cellphone.

“We don’t know if there is a threat to thebakery. There is a threat to the club and the last time, the bakerywas targeted because of Smokey. You know how he feels about Ava.She got hurt.”

“And so did you,” Harlow said.

“Yeah, and so did you. We weren’t prepared, but nowwe are, andnothing is going to happen.”

“Do I get to know who the threat is?” Harlowasked.

Raven stared at her.

“You don’t know, do you?”

“Your ability to do that is kind of fuckingfreaky.”

“Power of deduction,” Harlow said. “Justthe ability to read asituation and know what it means. I want tohelp.”

“All you can do is keep an eye on Ava, mindthe shop, and don’t get yourself into trouble.”

“I’m neverin any kind of trouble.”

“Yeah, and don’t think I didn’t seeHunter’s number in your cell phone,” Raven said.
