“I’m not talking horseshit!”
“Hunter, in all the years I’ve known you,and I know that’s notactually many in the scheme of things, you don’t strike me as a guywho runs away from stuff. You’re the kind of guy who runs towardit.”
“I’ve never felt the way I have withyou.”
Harlow shook her head. “I don’t believeyou.”
“What do I need to do to show you?” Hunterasked.
“Prove it! Give me a reason why Ishould.”
“My word is not enough?”
“Your word once told me that you were doneand I wasn’t good enough for you, so you tell me. Which one is thetruth, and why should I believe one over theother?”
****
“You still don’t believe him?” Haileyasked.
Harlow finished putting the new range ofconcealers on the shelf. They had a new delivery of recentproducts on the market, and sheloved all the packages. They were perfect. This was one area of thejob she did also like. Another area she liked that she hadn’t toldanyone about, was applying the makeup.
When she was alone in her room, she foundherself at her vanity table, attempting some of the makeuptutorials she saw online. The first attempt was a mess, butnowshe was getting usedto the feelings of the brushes and the products on her face. Shealways started with a small amount of product.
“No, I don’t.”
“You know, he’s still out there,” Hailey said.
This had become part of Hunter’s jobdescription it would seem. She didn’t know if it meant the threat of the TwistedBastards MC was stronger now, but he was always outside, lurking. He had even offered to drive her home. Hailey currently had beenavailable to drive her home. Even though she had been tempted toclimb on the back of his bike, she held herself back.
“Do you think he’s making clients uneasy?”Harlow asked.
“Nah, if anything I thinkit’s giving themsomething pretty to look at.”
Harlow smiled, she couldn’t help it.Hunter was a handsome man, and she had seen the whole package as well, completely naked, and he was a dream.
She didn’t say anything, as she didn’t wantto evoke jealousy.
“Why don’t you go outside and offer him acup of coffee or a tea? It’s freezing out.”
“I’m not going outside into the cold.”
“Harlow, you cannot be so cold andheartless.”
“If you’re so worried, why don’t you go andask him?” Harlow asked.
Hailey smiled and winked at her. “Simple,I’m the boss, and I know deep down in that cold, heartless heart of yours, there is infact a woman who cares a lot, and is just pretending to hate him. You’d hate it if he froze to death.”
“He’s not going to freeze to death.” Shefinished unpacking the box and broke it down so it could go aroundthe back with the rest of the recycling.
Harlow didn’t want to play these gameswith Hunter. He broke her heart, and just because he was saying thethings she wanted to hear, it didn’t for a second mean she believedany of them. Hunter knew how to walk the walk and talk the talk. For all she knew, he could just be missing the regular fuck they enjoyed.
Wrapping a jacket around her shoulders toward off the cold, she made her way across the road to where Hunterstood.
“What are you going?” Harlow asked.
“Keeping an eye on you.”
She sighed. “Does this have to do with mybrother? Has George put you up to it?”
