He runs the back of his hand over my arms and exposed breasts, his eyes following his own movements. “Because as fake as our relationship might be, our marriage is real. You’re mine.” He’s kissing me again. “I want to mark every part of you so everyone knows you’re owned.” He bites down on my neck.

“Until you divorce me in a year,” I say and I know it’s the wrong thing. His movements still, his hand falling from my body. I want to take it back. I want him to look at me and tell me that he doesn’t want a divorce… but he doesn’t.

“I’m going to take a shower, then call Mac, see what’s going on.” He looks up finally, a smile on his face as he kisses me gently. “You’re more than welcome to join me.”

“You sure you aren’t sick of me yet?” I follow him toward the bathroom.

“I don’t think I’d ever get sick of being around you.”

“Aw, that’s sweet.” I poke his side.

“…when you’re naked that is.”

“Of course.” I laugh, stepping over the bathtub wall. “Oh.” I look down, my inner thighs slick with his release dripping out of me.

“You okay?” He adjusts the water to a warmer temperature.

“Yeah, just, uh, leaking.”

“I guess it’s time to fill you back up, then.” He wraps his arms around me from behind, pressing my hands against the wall before bending me slightly forward.

Afterward, Atlas takes his time massaging my body with the bar soap provided by the motel. He massages my scalp with the shampoo, making me wonder if this is what it’s like to date him.

“Is this how it always is with you?”

“No.” He pulls me back into the water, rinsing the suds from my hair before lathering it with conditioner.

“What makes it different this time?”

“It’s not this time, it’s you.” My eyes open and I look up at him. “You’re my wife; you should be treated differently.”

I close my eyes again as he rinses out the conditioner. I remind myself to stop setting myself up for heartbreak with questions like that. I’m only going to hurt my own feelings in the end.

After the shower, he gives Mac a call while I flip through the local channels, trying to find out what’s going on with this storm that hit and how bad it is.

“Flights are still grounded out of all local airports right now as they work to clear debris from the runways and fix downed power lines. Thousands are currently without power or access to clean, running water, Cindy.”

I sit down on the bed, listening to the reporter on the screen as she walks through a neighborhood with cars destroyed by fallen trees, houses missing roofs, and a few even completely torn apart. I glance over at Atlas as he hangs up.

“Mac is bringing us some fresh clothes he was able to get a few towns away. Looks like we’re not going anywhere today so I’m going to see if there’s anything I can do to help out.” He turns his attention back to his phone, tapping a few buttons before holding it up to his ear.

“How do we have power?” I ask as the lights flicker.

“This place has a backup generator,” he says, holding his phone away from his face. “I saw it when I left the room the other night. Probably won’t last much longer though.”

Moments later Mac arrives with fresh clothes, coffee, and bagels for us.

“Oh yes,” I moan against my coffee, taking several sips. “God, I needed that.”

“Sounded a lot better moaning that when my cock was inside you.” Atlas pulls a black t-shirt on, reaching for the coffee from Mac’s hand. Mac’s eyes dart to mine and I look away, completely embarrassed.

“I’ll be outside,” Mac says, exiting the room.

“Are you embarrassed people know we fuck?”

“No,” I say, pulling on the cotton underwear and the black sweatpants Mac picked out for me. “I just don’t think they need to hear about it. Especially in front of me.” Atlas finishes pulling on his jeans, walking over to me.

“He needs to know loud and clear how well I fucking please you because don’t think I haven’t noticed the way he looks at you.”
