Chapter 7
Maggie
“Thank you, Chicago! You’ve been wonderful tonight!” Lovely Oblivion’s lead singer, Bex, crooned into the microphone. Her hair spiked into a Mohawk, Bex fulfilled the persona of “rocker” as she pushed her fist into the air and waved good night to the roaring crowd.
The band left the stage and chatted amongst themselves as they walked to the dressing room backstage.
The band’s bassist and guitarist, Polly, linked arms with Maggie and smiled at her. Polly’s space buns hairstyle made her look adorable.
“How was your trip?” Polly asked.
Maggie smiled when she thought of Wylder.
“It was good. The wedding was beautiful, and they had a nice reception after.”
“What’s that smile about?”
“I met this guy at the reception.”
Polly wiggled her eyebrows up and down suggestively. “Is he hot?”
“Definitely.”
“Did you get his number?”
Maggie laughed. “I did.”
“Are you going to hook up with him later?”
“Maybe. He wants to get to know me better. Maybe I made a friend.”
“Pssh. Maybe you made a boyfriend. Does he know what you do? About the band?”
Maggie shook her head. “Not yet. At least, I haven’t told him, anyway.”
Polly patted Maggie’s arm. “Tell him before you get serious. He has to know about the rockstar lifestyle before he gets pulled into it.”
“I know. I’ll tell him if we get that far. I may never even hear from him again.”
“You will.”
Polly let go of Maggie’s arm to enter the dressing room. She led the way into the small room.
“Flynn!” Polly gasped.
Polly ran to her husband, who waited on the couch, and jumped into his lap. She ran her hands through his crew cut hair and rained kisses all over his face. He fit the part of “rockstar” in his leather jacket and ripped jeans.
He stole a kiss from Polly. “Surprise,” he said with a grin.
Flynn was also a successful rockstar. His band was on tour on the other coast. He and Polly traveled to see each other on their days off, even if they only got a short time together before they had to hop a plane. They were the goal for celebrity relationships, always affectionate and never apart for more than a week. They made their lives together work, despite their busy schedules.
Maggie wanted a partner like that, but so far she’d never met anyone who could endure being a partner to someone with her lifestyle.
“I thought you had concerts all week,” Polly said.
“I got a surprise day off. The shows were supposed to start tomorrow, but the venue canceled tomorrow night’s performance. I left after today’s press conference and I have a redeye flight out tomorrow night, but I have tonight and tomorrow to spend with you.”
Polly walked by the happy couple to grab her shower bag from her makeup table.
