Flynn’s gaze settled on Polly, who gave him a weird look and shook her head.
The moment broke when someone shrieked, “Oh my god! Is that Polly? She’s with Flynn! Polynn!”
Flynn’s face dropped. “And there’s our cue to leave,” Flynn said. He grabbed Polly’s hand and pulled her into the crowd of foot traffic. They disappeared around the corner, losing the fan.
They leaned against a random building, laughing.
“Polynn really caught on, huh?” Polly teased. “You know I’m first because I’m the best, right?”
“I’m not even going there,” Flynn laughed. “I admit nothing.”
“Aww, come on, you can say it. I rock.”
“You do rock. But I refuse to acknowledge this Polynn thing. It’s dumb. I won’t answer to it.”
A crazy thought crossed Flynn’s mind and his heart beat a little faster. These combined celebrity names were for couples. Could he and Polly make it as a couple? Would she want to try?
“What, so you’d prefer Flolly?” Polly asked.
Flynn laughed. “Yes actually. Hell of a lot better than ‘pollen.’ But they only give these combined names to couples.”
Flynn had the perfect opportunity and didn’t want to miss it. Polly’s heartbreak was still fresh, but Flynn’s desires were driving him crazy and he needed to take the chance.
He swallowed hard, then asked, “Do you want to be Flolly — a couple — with me?”
“I...” Polly stopped and stared at him. “Are you serious?”
He’d never felt more serious. “I know it’s fast, but yeah I am. I want to try if you’re willing.”
“I’m right out of a long-term relationship,” she said.
Flynn took her hand.
“I know,” he said. “My timing sucks. But we get along great and I can see a future with you. Plus, I’m going crazy jealous anytime another guy talks to you -- because I want you as mine. If you’re up for it, I’d love to try.”
Polly stared at him for a moment. His stomach filled with butterflies as he waited for her answer.
“What about the distance?” she asked.
“We can do it.” He squeezed her hand. “We’ll figure it out. I know we will.”
She stared at him for a moment longer, then nodded. “Okay, yes,” she said.
Relief flooded him. Flynn grinned. “Yes?”
Polly nodded. “Yes.”
“Perfect,” he said.
His lips found Polly’s. He slid his hands into her hair and ravished her mouth, holding nothing back for their first kiss. Her soft lips matched his and Flynn growled with pleasure.
Conscious that they were still on the street, he reluctantly broke the kiss before they attracted attention.
He smiled at her and said, “Hi,” short of breath.
She smiled back. “Hi.”
He wrapped her in a hug. “You won’t regret this, I promise.” He kissed her forehead. He loved the feeling of her in his arms. Why hadn’t they done this sooner?
