He went to the closet, rummaged through his bag, and grabbed a couple of items. He turned and smiled at a devious-looking Polly then disappeared into the bathroom.
Flynn tugged his bowtie undone and smirked at his reflection. Leave it to Polly to change the rules. His manager would have a fit. But damn, would it be worth it to see the look on his face. Flynn took off his tux and put on his nicest jeans and a button-up gray shirt. He rolled the shirt sleeves to his elbows, which showed off his tattooed sleeves. The business casual attire looked good, but it was no tux.
He stepped from the bathroom, and Polly whistled when she saw him.
She approached, wrapped her hands around his collar, and straightened his shirt.
“Lookin’ sharp, Flynn. I like this better than the tux.”
She looked up at him and smiled, smoothing her hands over the front of his shirt.
Flynn gazed down at her hazel eyes. His breath hitched when she beamed at him. The trust in her expression floored him. No one else looked at him with full appreciation and faith. In his mind, he knew she was beautiful, but in that moment he could only see her beauty.
For the first time, he wondered if he and Polly could be “more” than friends. His eyes flicked to her lips. Why hadn’t he considered it before?
He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear as he remembered. The timing wasn’t right. He’d firmly placed her in the friend zone and never looked back when they met. Probably because she’d been engaged and he knew he didn’t have a chance. And now she was coming off a breakup.
Polly patted his chest and picked a piece of lint off his shirt, snapping him from his train of thought.
He smiled nervously and cleared his throat, which suddenly seemed dry. “You about ready?”
“Yes. I’ll grab my purse and we can go.”
Polly walked to her bed and grabbed a small crossbody bag from her duffle. She stuffed her wallet, phone, and camera in then placed the strap over her shoulder.
“I’m ready.”
Flynn texted the driver that they were on the way. He opened the door, and they walked into the hallway. He clasped her hand in his, and they headed downstairs toward the car.
