He pulls me to his chest, kissing the top of my head. “Anything you want to do.” Just then, the doorbell rings, making me wonder who it could be. I'm not expecting anyone or even a delivery.
I get up to go answer it and can feel Walker at my back, following me. As soon as I open the door, I burst into tears at who’s standing on the other side. “Momma.” My mom gathers me in her arms, holding me tight. God, how I've missed her something fierce.
“Hi baby girl. I'm sorry for showing up like this, but I couldn't stay away. I had to meet the man that stole my baby girl's heart. Plus, you know how your daddy is. He wants to grill Walker, making sure he's taking good care of you.” She whispers that part in my ear, making me laugh.
I pull back, wiping my tears from my eyes, and I'm lifted into a bear hug by my dad. Doesn't matter how old I am, he still treats me like I'm a little girl. “Hi princess.”
His hugs are the best. I look over, and my mom is giving Walker a hug, whispering to him. “Hi Daddy. Let’s all head into the kitchen, and I'll make some coffee. Did you guys have breakfast yet?” He puts me down and I look over at Walker, who has a smile on his face.
“I want to talk to Walker alone for a bit. We will be in once we are finished.” Daddy has a no nonsense look on his face. Momma and I just roll our eyes. Men, am I right?
Walker comes over to me, kissing me on the lips. “It’s okay, Angel, we will be there soon. I love you.”
“Love you too.” Momma grabs my arm and I follow her into the kitchen, making her a coffee and a fresh one for myself, and take a seat at the table.
Momma grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze. “It's so good to see you so happy, baby girl. I just couldn't stay away. I had to see for myself. Are you happy though? Is he treating you right?”
“I’m so happy. I don’t even have words to describe how I feel when I'm with him. He treats me so good. I wonder what they are talking about in there? I hope daddy isn't too hard on him.” Not being able to help myself, I look in the living room’s direction, not that I can see it from here. I’m nosey, sue me! You would be too if you were in my shoes.
“Just because your daddy knows him doesn't mean he’s not grilling him, making sure he’s doing right by you. Just let them have this talk and they will be in soon. But let's try to listen in any way.” Momma grabs my hand lifting me out of my chair and walking closer to listen in while I try not to laugh, giving us away.

Walker
As soon as Kennedy opened the door and I saw who was on the other side, I wasn’t surprised at all. I knew they were going to show up today. Hell, if I were a father, I would do the same damn thing to make sure the asshole was taking good care of my daughter. I watch as Kennedy and her mom head for the kitchen before I turn back around to James.
Sticking my hand out, he grabs it in a firm grip. “It’s good to see you again, Sergeant Carson.”
“Call me James, I'm no longer your Sergeant. It’s good to see you as well, Walker. Let's head to the living room and talk because if I know Kennedy and my wife, they are going to listen to our conversation.” He chuckles out, making me laugh. I can just see her and Lillian trying to listen in.
I wait till he takes a seat before sitting across from him and waiting him out because I know he is going to be grilling me on my intentions with Kennedy. “So, how have you been, Walker? What have you been doing since you've been out?”
“After I left, I just got on my bike and drove with no proper direction in mind. Just me and the open road. Until I stopped here to get my bike fixed, that's where I found Lucas and Blackwood Customs. He offered me a job, and I put down roots here for the first time in my life. That's when I went across the street to Naughty Beans Cafe and saw Kennedy for the first time. It nearly knocked me on my ass. From that first glance, I knew she was going to be mine. Though she didn't make it easy. Anytime I went in there, she turned red as a tomato and ran from me. I finally got my chance when her piece of shit car died on her and the rest is history. Kennedy is my life and I will love her until my last dying breath. I plan to marry her soon, but I know it would mean the world to her if I had your permission. Not that I wouldn't be marrying her, anyway.” I knew what James was after and I'm not one to beat around the bush. I just laid out all my cards on the table. He can grill me seven ways to Sunday, and my answers are going to be the same. Kennedy is mine, and I'm never letting her go. James stares me down, making me wait before he nods his head at me.
“You have my permission. But if I hear one word that you're not treating her right, I will be down here so quick you won't know what hit you.” I take his words for the threat that they are. He wasn't a sergeant for nothing. I get up and offer him my hand.
“I promise you that you won't have to do that. Kennedy will only know happiness.” I will make it my life's mission to see her smile every day.
“Good. Now do you think we should tell them they can stop eavesdropping now and come in here?” We both laugh. I knew they were there the whole time. Kennedy isn’t exactly stealthy; they were making so much noise, whispering back and forth. They both walk in with sheepish looks on their faces, though I know they aren't sorry for listening in. Kennedy walks right to me and I wrap my arms around her.
I kiss the top of her head. “Did you hear all of that?”
She shrugs her shoulders, shaking her head. “I have no idea what you're talking about. Momma and I were just having a pleasant conversation.”
I have to laugh at that. “Anyone ever tell you, Angel, you're a shit liar.”
She sticks her tongue out at me, making us all laugh. Surrounded by her family, I can't think of a better time than to ask her to be mine in all ways. Hell, as soon as I met her, I went out and bought a ring. I turn her so she's facing me and pull out the ring from my pocket and get down on one knee, making her gasp.
“Kennedy, from the first moment I met you, I knew you were going to be mine. That was the moment I knew what true love felt like for the first time in my life. You are literally an angel sent from above, and I will make it my mission in life to make sure you always smile. You are my heart and soul. Kennedy, will you do the honor of becoming my wife?” I grab her hand in mine and slip on the ring.
“Yes! Yes, I'll marry you, Walker.” She says through her tears. I get up and kiss her like my life depends on it. She has just made me the happiest man alive.
Kissing her one last time, I pull back, cupping her face in my hands. “I love you, Angel.”
I wipe her tears. “I love you, Walker, so much.”
We turn to her parents, who have smiles on their faces, and her mom rushes over, enveloping the both of us in a hug. “I'm so happy for you guys. We have so much to do to plan. God, I don't even know where to start.” She pulls out her phone, already taking notes.
