“What do you mean ‘why’?”

“I just don’t understand why you’d build me something like this.”

He smiles, a hint of mischief in his eyes. “Consider it a wedding gift, then.”

“But—but it’s not even a real marriage,” I protest, the words feeling hollow even as I say them.

“The papers would prove otherwise,” he counters.

“I can’t take this!”

“You damn well can take it. It’s all in your name. Like your ring, there’s no strings attached, Stella. You inspired the design.”

“I did?”

“I started working on it the day after we met in your apartment.”

We’d gotten drenched when he tried to repair my kitchen faucet. I’d changed into a tank top and he couldn’t stop staring at my tattoo. It was almost like he’d been poleaxed.

My heart pounds and my tears well up as it hits me. The shape mirrors my tattoo, a symbol so deeply personal to me, and now etched into the sleek lines of this yacht.

“I—I don’t know what to say. It’s just... too much.”

“I’ll give you a hint. It starts with ‘M’,” Ryan teases.

Laughing through my tears, I turn and wrap my arms around him, burying my face in the warmth of his chest.

“Say it,” he coaxes.

“Thank you,” I whisper, my voice muffling against his skin.

“Pfft. Not that.”

“You’re insane,” I say, half-laughing, half-crying.

“Geez, what does a man have to do to hear that word?”

Magnificent

“You have a fetish for it or something?”

“No. It’s just a word I chose for you.”

I chuckle, shaking my head, unable to wrap my brain around his logic. “You’re strange.” And wonderful.

We stand together, my gaze drifting back to the yacht. It’s hard to believe he built it inspired by my ink.

“I got the tattoo for Viv, you know. After she passed.”

I feel his nod against my hair. “It’s a beautiful work of art.”

“Do you have any tattoos?” I suddenly realize I’ve never seen him fully naked.

“No. It doesn’t quite fit with the schedule of a regular blood donor.”

This is something else I didn’t know about my husband. “Regular donor? How regular are we talking?”

He shrugs nonchalantly. “About six times a year. You have to wait a few months to donate after getting a tattoo.”
