Chapter Thirty-Six

Lucy stoodin Leo’s office, watching the rain hit the window in sheets. She wished she could hear it hitting the window—she loved that sound. Today was her first day off bed rest, and she was happy to be able to do what she wanted. She just wished she hadn’t said she would come into work.

Leo was gone to a meeting and would be back soon, but she wasn’t afraid to be caught in his office anymore. In fact, today she was looking forward to it.

It had been five days since the wedding, both of them. In true Lovely fashion, she and Leo and been married before the actual marriage. She had been sure Cliff had forgotten to plan the surprise early wedding.

She and Leo had stayed at the Lovely house because they were getting up early to start the food. Harper had insisted on catering and wanted to do it with her sisters again, all of them. All the sisters had chosen to stay, and so had all husbands. The Lovely house was once again full, with men everywhere. Even Sera had stayed, and she had chosen to sleep on the couch. Harrison hadn’t been happy about it and hadn’t stayed, instead taking Emma and Violet home for the night.

When she had opened her eyes at 4:00 a.m., she had been disappointed that Cliff hadn’t woken them in the night to start their lives together like every other sister. Climbing from bed, she had left Leo sleeping and headed downstairs. At that time, she had accidentally woken Sera when she had made too much noise in the kitchen. It was then that she had grumbled about being tired-looking and went home.

Soon after, Harper got up and then slowly, each sister showed up until the kitchen felt like old times, and she completely forgot that it was her wedding they were prepping for.

At 6:00 a.m., Cliff had walked in the kitchen dragging the judge, the same judge that had married everyone. And he still wasn’t happy to be there, even if it was a better hour than most of the others’ weddings.

Leo had been woken up, and within minutes they had been married in front of every sister and spouse. Even Aubrey and Alexis had been there.

After kissing her groom, she had gone back to work. If only for about a minute before Leo carried her to the living room since she wasn’t supposed to be prepping for her own wedding. She was still on bed rest.

The rest of the day went by in a blur, even the wedding at the cathedral hadn’t been as bad as the others that had been there. Because despite every no, Sera heard yes. A small wedding in the backyard had quickly morphed into a big event at the same cathedral Sera and Mabel had been married at months before. Lucy was a little nervous for Agatha, Emma, and Violet because Sera was uncontrollable now. Looking back on all the weddings, she decided Sera had been uncontrollable the entire time.

Leo rushed into the office as he always did, not even noticing her, but she noticed him, all gorgeous and in control as always. How she hadn’t found him mouthwateringly beautiful since day one, she didn’t know.

Mostly she blamed it on him not acting like who he really was around her. Who knew the womanizing, name-forgetting, player was actually the devoted, overprotective, and tattooed man he was? She did now.

“Lucy, we have to talk. I was just in a meeting with HR, and we have a problem.” Leo turned his chair until he was facing her. He had noticed her there after all.

“What did they say?” She walked around to her chair. She liked how his eyes tracked her movements.

“There was a complaint filed about me,” he said with a frown as she walked to the door that was between their offices, a door that was always open. Only when he was in important meetings was it closed until today.

“By who?” She turned back to him.

“Someone named Macy. I have never heard of a Macy, and neither have they.” He picked up his pen and tapped it on the desk.

“Macy, Macy, Macy,” she said over and over as if she was trying to come up with a person to go with the name as she walked toward him.

He shook his head. “We don’t have a Macy here.”

“What’s the complaint about?” She bypassed her usual chair and went around his desk.

“That I had sex with her in my office.” He mindlessly backed his chair up so she could get a better look at the note he brought in.

“Did you?” She leaned over and looked at the paper, wondering if Leo realized she wasn’t reading it.

“Of course not. I have never had sex in my office,” he stated and tossed the pen down.

“Because you don’t want to?” she asked, turning to him.

“Because I’m not having sex with anyone but you.”

She quirked an eyebrow at him. “You want to have sex with me?”

“Seriously? You have to ask, Lucy? I have so many plans for when you’re off bed rest.”

That got her attention. “Really? Like what?”

“Like stripping you naked and keeping you in bed for a week. Making love to you in every room I can in our house. Licking your entire body until you can’t breathe except to beg me to take you again and again.”
