There is no way that I can send her back outside. Not when it’s the middle of the night and she’s wearing nothing but a towel.
I’m stuck with her.
Izzy runs her hand through her wet hair before heading for the window.
“Where do you think you’re going?” My tone is gruff as she tries to open the window.
“Figured you’d want me to get out of your space.”
I sigh and shake my head. “You can stay here tonight. I’ll get you something to wear, and then you can take the couch. It’s better than the bed.”
Her mouth drops open as I spin and head into the bedroom. First, I put on a shirt to have another layer of clothing between us. I rifle through my drawers, stalling for time as I think of anything I can to get rid of the hard cock pressing against my zipper.
If she is going to stay here for the night, then I’m going to be staying as far away from her as possible. I may want her, but I don’t want her enough to ruin the careful sense of peace and isolation I’ve built around myself.
Seeing her in my clothing is going to be bad enough.
I take out a pair of gray sweatpants and a white shirt, placing them on the bed before heading out to her. “Clothes are on the bed. You can change in there.”
She tucks a strand of her hair behind her ear, her gaze falling to the ground. “Thank you.”
As she disappears, I finish off the beer and rinse out the bottle. The door to my room opens a few moments later and she steps out. Izzy drowns in my clothing, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more beautiful woman.
“So.” She hangs her towel over the back of one of the dining chairs at the chipped table. “What are you still doing awake? I thought your sleep was important to you.”
There’s a teasing tone to her voice that I don’t miss as she pulls out another chair and watches me. Her stare is unnerving, sending a chill down my spine.
The last thing I’m going to do is tell her that I’m still awake because I just got back from her show. If she doesn’t know I go to them, I want to keep it that way.
Be attracted from a distance. It’s safer that way.
I lean against the counter. “I was up late tonight.”
The corner of her mouth twitches. “No shit. What were you doing up?”
“It’s my day off. I stay up through the night to keep my schedule the same.”
“Vampire.” Her sunny smile sends my heart racing a mile a minute.
In that moment, I would give everything I have for her to always smile at me that way.
She’s a damn enchantress, and if I’m not careful, I’m going to get tangled in her web.
Izzy tilts her head, her eyes narrowing. “What is it that you do for work? I thought I saw you in scrubs the other day.”
“Watching for me?” I cross my arms, the corner of my mouth twitching.
Maybe this attraction isn’t so one-sided. I’ve seen the way she looks at me.
Her cheeks flush again. “Curious. Nobody in the building seems to know much about you. I figured that I should know something about the man who likes to yell at me.”
“You catch me on bad days. It seems like you have a talent for that.”
Izzy’s eyes narrow. “That doesn’t sound like an apology.”
“You’re right.” I head over to the couch and sit down, motioning to the seat beside me. “If you’re going to spend the night here, you might as well make yourself comfortable.”
Her steps are slow as she comes over and joins me, dropping down at the other end of the couch. “This is the longest you’ve gone without yelling at me.”
