“Dad hinted Michael was dirty when I visited him. How did Mateo know where we were that day?”

“We think he had a couple of people working for him at the college, hence why your room got tossed. One of them saw you leave with Mr. Jackson and likely followed you.”

I lay there for a moment, pondering how long it would take for Dad to be released. Would everyone still hate him? Tears pricked my eyes. I missed him. He’d looked so ill when I saw him in MCC. I hoped now this new evidence had come to light he’d been moved to a safer bit of the prison. Away from Silva’s lackeys.

After all, once Silva’s case went to trial, my dad would be called as a witness for the prosecution.

“Angel, you need to get some rest.” Quinn leaned over and stroked my cheek.

He was right. My head hurt and I was beginning to see floating spots in front of my eyes. Some sleep would help.

“How long do I have to stay in this place?”

“The doctor said 24 hours while they keep an eye on you, to make sure Norcross’s fat ass didn’t do any permanent damage.”

“Hey, kid, remember all that illegal shit you did? I’m happy to arrest you right now if you carry on insulting me!”

“Pfft, like you would. I basically solved your case for you. You owe me.”

Norcross grumbled but didn’t contradict what Quinn said. “Make sure you apply once you graduate, and I’ll overlook the insults.”

My eyebrows shot up. “Are you going to become an FBI agent, Quinn?”

He snorted with amusement. “I’m thinking about it.”

“Seriously? You’d look sexy with a gun.” Ooh, maybe I was starting to feel better. My libido was, at least.

Harley chuckled. “We can role-play once you feel better.”

“Jesus Christ, I’m out of here. This shit is way above my pay grade.” Norcross looked queasy as he stood to leave. I reached out and grabbed his wrist.

“Thank you, I appreciate…everything.”

His expression softened. “For what it’s worth, I never believed your father was guilty, but we had nothing to prove it. I’m sorry you had to go through all this.”

I nodded. His apology meant a lot. Dad and I had had our entire lives ripped apart, and some people, like Brax’s father, had lost theirs. “I hope Silva gets locked away for the rest of his life,” I gritted out. And ass fucked on the regular.

“He will. There’s too much evidence against him, no way will his lawyers get him out of this one.”

“What’s going to happen to the Walker empire?” If the company’s assets were frozen, it left Brax and his sisters with nothing.

“We have accountants combing through everything, but it looks like Lily Walker was savvy enough to keep the business clean. While she actively assisted Silva in his business interests and profited from them, she ensured her business was strictly legit.”

“So who’s going to take the helm now?”

“Grandmother was ousted from the board once news of her arrest leaked, which means that I, as the next eligible member of the Walker family, now have her seat.” Brax didn’t look thrilled at the idea.

“And are you OK with that?” I tried not to think about the possibility he’d have to leave college, and therefore I might not see much of him going forward.

“Not especially, but for the time being, I will play my part.”

He looked tired. More tired than me, which was saying something. We needed some alone time, just him and I. Harley had crashed our first night together and then I’d been kidnapped. While we’d made a strong connection and I knew he was all in with us, we still had a long way to go before we found the same degree of intimacy I had with Harley and Quinn.

The way he stood back from the other two told me he was pulling away again. This needed to stop right now.

“I need a moment. Can you guys give me some space?”

“I was leaving anyway. The amount of paperwork I have now is ridiculous,” Norcross grumbled.
