Jessa squealed, and I made my move. I swept her off her feet, literally, and my next plan was to sweep her off her feet in every other sense. I had my Jessa back. I knew it, I felt it, and I was never letting her go.
That was the last thing I thought before my lips met hers.
Chapter Thirty
Jessa
I intended to talk to Cameron, not end up in his arms. My mind was begging me to stop this, but my heart spurred me on.
Cameron walked briskly into the ship to get out of the rain, which had switched directions and was blowing in on us under the covered deck. As he walked, my lips moved to his neck. He smelled goddamn good, like if you could bottle a sunrise and mix it with morning coffee on a perfect autumn day.
“Holy shit, this is your room?” I questioned after we’d stumbled in, all the instant love and romance out the window, taken away by the storm that howled around the yacht.
“We can discuss sleeping quarters later,” he said, grabbing my hand, his eyes pleading with me to stay in the moment.
I pulled my hand from his as I checked out this stately room fit for a real-life king. “This is amazing. So, is this the part where you tell me that you’re the real yacht owner?”
He smirked and slid his hands into his trousers as his eyes roamed around the large room.
Mine did too. This place was made up of windows, an elegant balcony with a built-in spa, a super-sized king bed, a sofa, and the hallway I’d just walked through to get here.
“This is wildly beautiful.”
“You’re welcome to stay and enjoy the luxury it has to offer,” he grinned, watching me with a look that sent a chill up my spine.
This man was the epitome of sexy.
“Jackson,” I said, stopping the forward progression of where Cam and I were headed. “I can’t just run off like this.”
“The kids are with the activity directors,” he said with a confused yet humorous expression.
“Yes, I know that,” I said, feeling unnerved by the dark expression he wore, standing across the room from me. “I can’t just disappear, though. What if he has a seizure, and they’re looking for me?”
While I was trying to shake the sudden nerves, Cam kept his expression as serious as it was when we were talking outside.
“First off,” Cameron started.
“First off?” I said, trying to keep the conversation moving forward.
“I’ve already discussed Jackson’s epilepsy with the staff. All safety measures were implemented for him long before we arrived yesterday.”
I cocked my head to the side and smiled, “Well, thank you for that.”
“I wanted you and Jacks to be comfortable. Since I specialize in epilepsy, I’ve got all precautions in order. And while on a yacht,” he smiled and waved his hand around the room, “it’s nice to have medical aid close by, if for nothing else than to feel more comfortable while knowing the hospital is not right around the corner.”
“And to have a pediatric surgeon aboard as well,” I teased, feeling my sudden nervousness dissipate.
“Always nice to have a doctor who specializes in the field of your medical condition aboard a yacht.” His forehead creased in humor.
He crossed the room to where I stood. “Everyone on the boat has our cell numbers in case something happens.” He took my hands into his strong ones, “Is this how you’ve been living with Jackson?”
“Living like what, not able to do anything without worrying my son will have a seizure around people who have no idea what to do?”
“Yes,” he sighed. “My God.” He paused and looked toward the windows where this storm didn’t feel like the romantic moment of moments ago.
“Sorry. I sort of killed the moment.”
“You didn’t kill anything.” He looked at me with touching sincerity. “I am so damn sorry you’ve been doing this for so long, and I had no idea. I feel guilty that I went on living a carefree life, you know. It’s so unfair to you,” he said before he took a deep breath and continued. “I don’t want to dredge up old things, but for the sake of moving forward, I just need to say that I wish you would’ve told me—you absolutely could’ve told me at any point—that you were pregnant. We were so close, Jessa. We weren’t just your average couple in college, you know?”
