Kelly

“There is NO FUCKING WAY!”

I stand frozen in place with a wedding bouquet that had just dropped on my head seconds ago clutched to my chest while my friends scream with laughter and clap. I have caught the flower toss. I finally laugh and wave the bouquet sarcastically. It was my best friend Alessia’s wedding, and I had only joined the line for the flower toss because everyone else was doing it.

Heck, Jenna was already married, and she’d joined the line too.

“Wow, looks like Kelly’s getting married next. Who would’ve thought!” Louise jokes, her dark brows wiggling.

I roll my eyes and raise the flowers over my head. “Alright, who wants to get married? Take these from me immediately!”

My friends snicker and giggle, moving away quickly.

“Nah... whoever catches the flowers has to stay sober and be the mom's friend tonight,” Rachel says.

I gasp, my blue eyes narrowing. “WHAT?! When did you guys decide? No! I’m never the mom's friend!”

My friends scatter, laughter in their wake. I turn to Alessia, who has just left me in the world of the single.

She holds her husband, Michael’s arm, allowing him to kiss her cheek as she shrugs. “Sorry babe, I can’t help you. It’s my wedding. I’m getting shit-faced.”

I whine as she grabs my arm in one hand and Michael’s in the other, leading us both to the dance floor.

I smile as I watch her smiling radiantly.

I’m so glad she’s happy.

I look down at the flowers in my hands with a small smirk.

Well, the wedding fairies or whatever fucked up with one. Me? Married next? As if. I’m the least committed person I know. I’m happy for Alessia and Jenna who’ve found good men and settled down, but me? I will never settle down. The thought of commitment gives me hives.

Everyone knows how I am; that’s why this is such a big joke. I like my men, many and replaceable. Hmm... maybe there’s some man out there I’d settle for.

I snort. I can’t even take the thought seriously. If the fairies wanted to limit my alcohol, they should have just said. I’m complaining, but I can’t keep the smile off my face.

My phone beeps and I retrieve it from my clutch, looking away from the happy couple to the text just came in. The smile on my face is lost when I see who the message is from.

Molly: Hey Kelly, how’s your friend’s wedding? Will you still drop by New York later?

I read the message over again, sighing deeply. My sister had mentioned visiting New York the last time we spoke and has since been hounding me.

Kelly: Yeah, sure.

My text is simple. I’m not particularly enthused about having to go home, but it’s been two years since I last saw my family. I’d put it off for too long already.

“Hey, Kelly,” I hear my name.

I right my expression quickly before turning in the direction of the voice. The last thing I want is for them to ask me what’s wrong. Today is a happy day, and I intend for it to remain so. Alessia motions for me to come over. The girls are already standing with her, and I’m the only one left.

“I wanted to introduce you guys,” Alessia says and smiles. She has her hand on the arm of an old man. He is grey-haired with tan skin and holds a cane. His eyes hold a smile as he looks at Alessia.

My gaze shifts to the side where a younger man stands, and my breath catches in my throat. He’s gorgeous… tall with a muscular frame, towering over everyone in our small group. His eyes are a light brown overflowing with intensity, and his curly dark hair is styled perfectly to frame his face, a random lock stopping just shy of his thick eyebrows.

Lord, what a delicious sight! My mouth waters as I take him in. I yearn to peel off his suit, although it would be a shame considering how well he wears it.

His ticking jaw and intense gaze give off a mature bad boy persona I’m so enamored by. I’m eager to know who he is and how I can get my hands on him.
