I’d never been more certain of anything as I watched her wiggle her hips, humming a random tune that was supposed to accompany it. I wasn’t sure if she was trying to be sexy or comedic or both; it was just Rebecca all over.

I snapped my fingers. “Get that cute little butt over here now.”

She glanced over her shoulder. “Ah, so my dance is working?”

“Very much so. Now come and finish what you started before I do it myself.”

She didn’t need much more convincing. She climbed on top of me, pushing me into the mattress and kissing me hard. Our bodies fell into rhythm, hands and tongues coming together to set our souls on fire.

After, in a dreamy post-sex haze, I lay on Rebecca’s chest as she brushed her fingers over my back. Our bodies were so warm and sweaty, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to be close to her.

Her gaze was on me, and I wondered what she was thinking. Those green pools flicked to mine, and she smiled, touching something deep in my chest. I was struck by how much emotion I felt looking into her eyes. But I didn’t know why it still surprised me.

Rebecca let out a contented sigh. “I am sorry about the late thing. I know how much you hate that sort of stuff.”

I blinked, not expecting her to be thinking about that. “It’s okay. I know you’re not doing it on purpose. It’s your job.”

“I know, but still…I hope you’re not mad about it.”

I shook my head, the fuzzy feeling in my chest taking over my whole body. “I’m not mad. But you’re extremely cute.”

She smiled at that. “There’s only a few weeks left of the job anyway, and then I’m all yours.”

Now that didn’t sound half bad. “All mine? You sure?”

She puckered her lips for a kiss, and I shuffled further up to oblige. “All yours.”

I laid my hands on her chest, my thoughts swirling in my head. “And…after the wedding, we’re going to tell people?”

“Yeah.” Her eyes never left mine. “Of course.”

“Do you feel ready?”

“Yes. Do you, Jess?”

I nodded, tracing a pattern on her skin. “I do. I want to tell Lily. I think she deserves to know how happy we make each other. Surely she can’t be mad at that? I think if we’re in this together, we can do anything.”

Rebecca smiled, and my focus dropped to that luscious bottom lip.

“That was kinda corny,” I mumbled. “But—”

“No, no, I like it. I like being corny with you.” She kissed me once, catching me by surprise. “But—if you tell people how soppy I am, I will have to deny it to protect my street cred.”

I snorted. “What street cred? The whole world is going to know just what a softie Rebecca Lawson really is.”

“You wouldn’t dare.” She jabbed her fingers under my armpits, tickling me until I pinkie promised to keep all her corniness to myself.

Just for one more week, at least.

Twenty-Four

A soft clicking sound pulled me from sleep and back into the cream walls of my bedroom. I fluttered my eyes open and smiled when they landed on Rebecca. She was sitting upright in bed next to me, typing away with her laptop on her knee. I only managed to watch sneakily for a few moments before her attention turned to me.

Damn it.

“How did you know?” I grumbled. “You’re like a hawk.”

She let out a soft chuckle. “Actually, I just realised you’d stopped snoring.”
