The corner of her mouth ticked upwards—that teasing, taunting mouth—and my body reacted before my brain could function, pulling us together like magnets. I closed the distance and captured her lips in a kiss. Softly, so softly, before pulling back.
The shock registered in her eyes for a millisecond before lust quickly overpowered it. She kissed me again, hard, pressing her body up against mine and knocking me into the wall with a thud. One hand gripped my face, pulling me into a deeper kiss, her warm tongue slipping into my mouth. Heat pooled between my thighs, flooding me.
Her other hand gripped my back, slipping down my playsuit. She grabbed my thigh, lifted it, and rocked into me.
A moan stuck in my throat. The pressure and the friction on my clit awakened a desire I’d pushed down inside for so long.
I pulled her closer by her shirt, brushing our tongues together. Every touch made me throb harder, but I wanted more. I needed more. My entire body demanded it. Rebecca’s hand started moving again, her fingers wandering to the inside of my thighs. The tension coiled so tightly in my midsection that I could barely stand it.
Please. Oh God, please.
Her fingers traced over me, finding a way into my playsuit.
“I need a bigger size!” Amy called, jumping both of us into the present and into the bridal shop…where Lily was waiting on the other side for us.
And I’d just kissed her sister.
I stumbled back from Rebecca.
Oh god.
Rebecca’s beautiful eyes looked back at me, her pupils blown wide. “I’ll get you one,” she replied to Amy, then placed a hand on my cheek, turning my face towards her. She was breathless as her gaze searched mine. “You don’t need to do your overthinking thing now,” she whispered and smiled, and I just wanted to kiss her again. “Even if I do find it very cute.” She nodded to the dress behind me. “You get changed first. I’ll be waiting.”
She left my stall, and I locked the door after her, my hand slightly shaking. I let out a deep breath. My heart raced, trying hard to break out of my chest. I didn’t think it would ever return to normal after a kiss like that. I didn’t know if I would, either. Maybe her kiss would leave a Rebecca Lawson stain on my mouth that I could never wipe off. And the way she’d touched me…
As we hurtled closer and closer to ‘the talk’, a gnawing feeling tugged at me, telling me that after this conversation, my life was going to change.
Guilt immediately chased away the butterflies building in my gut. If Lily found out…all hell would break loose.
“Are you nearly ready?” Rebecca asked from the other side of the door.
I opened my eyes, staring at myself in the mirror.
Truthfully, I wasn’t sure, but I was about to find out.
Twelve
Sally was tasked with taking Lily’s cousins home, so she offered to take my mum too, as they lived nearby. I imagined Mum was now at her emotional capacity for the whole month, and she wouldn’t be the type to offer a tissue or some comforting words of advice if Sally had another sobfest—although the thought of Mum trapped in their car while Sally bawled at the wheel did make me chuckle. She’d probably call in sick for bridesmaid-shopping tomorrow.
I dropped an excited Lily home, very pleased about finding her wedding dress, and then it was just Rebecca and me in my car. There was a fizzling tension in the air between us, and every time my mind replayed how her lips felt against mine, my entire core ached.
The radio filled the car with an upbeat pop song, but the lack of conversation wasn’t awkward. From time to time, we sneaked glances at each other, my pulse rate skyrocketing whenever she caught my eye and grinned that wicked smile of hers.
When we pulled up at my apartment, I could barely open the door with my shaking hands. Why did I suggest this in the first place? Talking was overrated. Even puking over her shoes seemed preferable right now.
“Sausage!” I called, flinching at the strained pitch of my voice. I cleared my throat and called him again, confused by the lack of pitter-patter of feet on the floorboards. He was usually never far from the sofa.
I did a quick scan of the surroundings, which didn’t take long in my apartment. Where the hell is he?
“Is everything okay?” Rebecca asked, appearing by my side and resting a hand on my waist.
I didn’t even have the chance to process where her hand was because I was about to enter full panic mode. “He’s not here.” I glanced round the kitchen and noticed his red food bowl was missing. I stopped my mad pacing and pulled my phone from my pocket. “Wait a second.”
The line rang for what felt like an eternity before Mum answered. I could just picture her searching her bag at an agonising pace for the old phone she refused to replace. It couldn’t even send picture messages.
“Hello?”
“Hey, Mum. It’s me. By any chance do you know where Sausage is?”
