But if they were already driving out that way, they could check.
“Do you want to go at the weekend?”
She did want to go. She could drive up right now and not have to wait for him. Or rely on him. Or continue to get pulled into the fairy tale he wove, counteracting the warnings in her mind about how hard it would be to walk away from him.
But after her call with Marc, there was no way she could. “We have too much work to do.” She didn’t even want to imagine Marc’s and Devika’s reaction if they heard she went on vacation with the owner’s hot son when they were off sprinting a marathon.
Logan lips pressed together and he nodded. “True. But we’re at a bit of an impasse. We’ll take a little break. Get out of the office.”
“We just got back.”
Logan shrugged. “Maybe it’ll spark an idea.”
They weren’t finding a lot of inspiration here with that menace of a drone buzzing around and Logan nixing all her ideas. Maybe, like the last tour, a change of scenery would help.
“We could make it a work trip.” If there was a flicker of disappointment in Logan’s eye, she ignored it. “Let’s see if we can borrow Big Mac’s drone. Take some video for the website. Visit some attractions.” Stirling Castle was the only place she’d heard of that showed up in her cannon results—probably because it was one of the most popular destinations in all of Scotland—but it was worth a try. And Logan could give a destination he’d written off a second chance.
Logan pouted, and she patted his cheek. He leaned into her hand, and she couldn’t resist running her thumb along his bottom lip. “Come on. It could be fun to explore Scotland again. To feel that first-time wonder you create for your guests.”
“Aye. That does sound nice.”
“We could get some good pictures. Ooh, you know what would really sell? You, in your kilt, telling the masses to come join you in the craggy mountains of the Highlands... Logan’s love letter to Scotland.”
He pulled her back into his arms. “You’re losing me. But we can visit Eilean Donan, stay in a cozy B and B...” he said, nuzzling her neck.
They could go and have a good time. It didn’t have to be a romantic getaway. And she did want to find the places in Heather’s Polaroids. The appeal of Logan showing her around the Highlands and keeping her warm through the long winter nights was too hard to deny. It felt good being with him.
And she wasn’t leaving yet.
They might as well make the most of the time she did have.
“I’d love that,” she said, pushing his hair out of his face. “But I’m driving.”
Logan smirked. “Of course you are.” He leaned into her, capturing her lips, and blocked out all the tangles of reality with his broad shoulders and skilled tongue.

Addie dragged Logan through the arched entrance of Stirling Castle. Despite the chill of the morning, she was toasty warm snuggled into Logan’s Heart of the Highlands hoodie under her raincoat.
Hope buoyed her up the ramp. Even if the cannon wasn’t here, she had a list of four other castles that might be the one.
“This feels like a trick,” Logan grumbled, shuffling behind her.
“I did warn you there’d be some work this weekend. Tell me some history to console yourself.”
He only grunted.
“Fine. Have it your way.” Addie dug into her shoulder bag and pulled out a guidebook.
“That is not a Rick Steves book.” He yanked the paperback from her fingers and growled, stuffing it under his arm and out of her reach. In a monotone voice, he recited, “Mary, Queen of Scots, was forced to abdicate the throne, and her son, James VI, was crowned King of Scotland at Stirling Castle at only thirteen months old.”
Addie bit back a smile. She was constantly impressed by his depth of knowledge, that he could remember so many tiny details and give them wings.
She liked it when he remembered her details, too.
Logan pointed to a tan building that almost looked like it belonged in New Mexico with its stair-stepping peaked roof and rim of horizontal posts. “That is The Great Hall, built in the early 1500s. The building was controversially limewashed to make it look much as it would in James IV’s time.” He rubbed a hand over his face and across his jaw. “I’ll take you through the Royal Palace when it’s not so bloody crowded.”
Addie wrapped her arms around Logan and squeezed. “See? You could totally make this work.”
